right, girlfriends car has a recurring but intermitent problem with the starter/solenoid unit (MGZR shape rover 214Si).

does anyone know a good supplier of recon bits like these..? I reckon rover would want several hundered quid for it.. so am not going there!!

pretty sure it's just the solenoid, as most of the time when it plays up it does the whole clackety-clackety noise... although the starter does seem to be trying quite hard sometimes as well....

in the midlands if you know any local places that are good and cheap!

any other ideas??

Thanks in advance..

I doubt they would be too pricey from rover - it is worth a go, otherwise try LSUK (used to be lucas - if they can't help you they'll likely know where), or as ever best bet may be a scrappy.

Check the earth lead hasn't come off for a start.

may be able to get something that works from a scrappy.

these guys www.findapart.co.uk have been pretty useful getting parts for my renault. IIRC the parts are warrantied for a certain amount of time too.
You post the part you are looking for and it gets send to a load of scrappys who will quote you a price for the part.

There's a good one near bloxham, or one just on the outskirts of leamington.

Drop my brother turbo-tastic an e-mail, he'll give you the name/address (I've forgotten it).
