Intermitently the EBF (Favorit) looses power then theres a sucking noise from the engine. The engine will not pull but idles.
Any attempt to accelerate just makes the sucking noise louder
The fault clears and away we go again

I get the same on my car when it's cold, but thats to do with the SU's and engine not firing properly without the correct choke...

Does it happen when cold or hot?

Id have thought the Favorit was fuel injected, but a few more details on the car would help.

Sounds like a split intake hose from the air flow meter Gem...the one that goes to the throttle body....
