When people talk about 'big valve' heads for the Rover V8, what size are the valves? and how much bigger than std are they?

Probably 43 inlets and 37 exhausts but you could go bigger if you moved the guides further apart. Get a turbo oh & big valves.

Since it has such a low compression and cam to suit, wouldn't it be wise to 270 cam it, 10:1 CR it, port match and gasflow it? Big heads are overkill unless you see to that lot first. IMHO.

AFAIK the 'standard' Stage III heads fitted for most upgrades of the RV8 come with 1.635" (41.5mm) inlet and 1.42" (36.1mm) exhaust valves.
Stage IV comes a little bigger at 1.83"(46.5mm) inlet and 1.64(41.6mm) exhaust.
Not sure what the 'standard' 5ltr TVR heads come with but they are similar to to the Stage III above by all accounts. Its normally only the 4 & 4.5 ltr TVR's that need to consider the bigger valve heads for upgrades IMHO.
I'm certainly no expert but I think the above are considered to be 'adequate' for most NA applications of the RV8. I also understand, but am not sure, there is not much point in going much bigger as you can encounter swirl/flow problems anyone like to expand that bit for me .
