Engine Oil query...

Which oil would be best for an 2001 BMW E39 M5?

i.e. grade/viscosity manufacturer etc...

(I need to top up).

Ideally you want to top up with whatever is in there. Only problem is that no-one seems to know what goes into the M5.

For models pre Feb 2000, the specification is for Castrol TWS 10W-60. For M5's made after this, BMW recommend an oil which meets BMW Longlife 01, which TWS does not. As far as I know tho, from owners I have spoken to, the engine is the same!

I would just go for something that meets BMW Longlife 01.
