Rover V8 diagnostics connector

I know you can buy a gizmo for diagnostics but I can't afford one at the moment.
I have a Griffith 500 with the Lucas 14CUX ECU. Is there any info out there about what the port does?
Is it a simple 2 wire TTL level serial port with common ground wire like the MY96 Impreza? (I cracked that one and have reasonable software for monitoring what that one gets up to now
) What's the baud rate? What data can I get out of the port - real time engine data such as RPM, oxygen sensor voltages or just fault codes?
I understand if people don't want to provide specifics, but some clues would be nice
