Not strictly engines but...

With the new engine spec on the Saab its developing a hell of a lot more midrange punch (as well as hitting 0.5bar of boost at 2300rpm and 1.3bar by 2800rpm) and is spinning the flywheel against the friction plate, the current clutch is a 9000 Turbo unit as its a bit bigger than a standard unit.

My options appear to boil down to either an AP-Paddle, which I've run before but its a bit harsh for traffic and I do run around in F900 occasionally or sort a stronger pressure plate, I know Sachs used to produce one that supposedly dealt with 500nm easily but that's out of production now. Does anyone know a firm that would rebuild a pressure plate with stronger fingers?

Cheers
Matt

maybe these guys can help ??

I see no reason why a paddle would ne necessary. Most modern design performance clutches can now handle around 400lbft easy enough with organic linings.

One thing about a paddle setup. I think that generally, paddle covers clamp harder. That means, as long as the friction material is the correct thickness, you can still use the uprated "paddle" cover, with even a standard organic lining.

To be honest I'd not recommend anything other than fitting a new unit. AP Racing can work out the clamp load you are using and try to give something that still remains controllable and has torque capacity.

For a road car you should try to go for an organic plate, not a cerametallic paddle type.

What you really should consider is going up in diameter because that will keep the capacity but lower the pedal load.

Having a new flywheel made may be required.

Stevie: Abbott don't stock anything that'd do for mine (oh and their a good 80% more expensive than my suppliers for the same gear ) Good point about the paddle's cover though.

Gavin: Current clutch is 12.5mm larger than a standard 900 unit and I'm at the limit of how big a flywheel I can get away with (currently run the larger 1993 spec flywheel). I'll ring AP tomorrow and see what they can offer.

Cheers

What about Helix ?

Nardi Gras Motorsport. Or there are a few clutch places that advertise in Motorsport News.

Of course, another option, is to re-drill the flywheel to take a cover from another vehicle for which a good strong cover is easily available.

Dropped a spare flywheel into my local motorsport engineering co on Friday to see what they could recommend . In the meantime I've turned the boost down and its still slipping at only 1.3bar This engine is really producing some decent power Only have a month to sort it so worst case I'll chuck an AP in.
