I seem to recall from my youth that there used to be magazines aimed at those of the "Break-It-Yourself" car meddling persuasion such as meself (Popular Mechanics, Practical Idiot, Home Mechanics, something like that). They don't seem to exist anymore or is my corner of Buckinghamshire just too full of people happy to pay someone else for them to be available?

There's Car Mechanics

ETA: You can get it from Martins in Thame if that's the right corner of Bucks.

Try and look out for "Practical Performance Car", a bit like C&CC before it went all max power and subsequently died. Lots of stuff on Fabrication and conversions etc.

The web site is pants, but gives you and idea what the logo on the mag looks like.I looked in the usual places for it, I ended up emailing them and they gave me 3 local news agents round the corner from me who stock it.

Edited to add: I also picked up the car mechanics mag on holiday also and that was good as well.

Or try Retro Cars.

Excellent magazine focusing on pre 90's motors. Everything from race prepped Singer Chamois' through to Pug 205's. They do a tech focus each month.
