Petrol in a diesel
Discussion
Let's say you have a 50 litre tank, then 12 litres of petrol is almost 25% roughly roughly if you brim the tank to the top.
It is known that some older diesel engines will run quite happily with this amount of petrol mixed in, indeed in some quarters petrol is suggested as an anti waxing agent in very cold westher. Questionable what a 25% mixture will do to seals, pump lubrication even if you include additives such as Millers.
Drain it off and clean the tank.

Dont start it, drain it.
You will knacker the pump. Seen it done in a RR 2.5 DSE(Aka 'the slug') - £2500 to put right.
Funny thing was that driver didn't know that they had done it, took it to LR dealer complaining of rough running, presumably spotty teenager plugged computer in rather than plugging brain in and could't find problem. They advised that it needed a new gearbox, took it to an Indy and they spotted problem.

When people first started experimenting with fuel injection in petrol cars, they used diesel injection components. They didn't last very long due to lack of lubricating properties in the fuel. Definitely drain it as far as you can then fill it right up with diesel. If it's been run at all I'd drain the filters too.
I'd second that. Drain as much as possible, but don't worry if you don't get every last drop out. Pump damage only occurs when it runs on undiluted petrol for any lenght of time. You could even possibly drive it to a NEARBY garage without damage. There, they should be able to remove the excess fairly easily. Phone first though!
