Hi

I've just bought a pretty near standard 1990 205 1.9 GTi to do the Welsh Sprint and Hillclimb championship next year. All the car has at the moment is a K and N 57i kit.

I've got a 1.6 gearbox (quicker off the mark, Billies and a up rated clutch lined up as a starting point.

Can anyone recommend a good cam I can fit? I'm keeping the car on fuel injection for the mo (twin 45s have already been suggested to me), but any other mods worth considering?

I'm a total novice, new to modifying cars after years wasted racing motorbikes (which are considerably less expensive/complicated to prep!), so any advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers - Alun Jones

Alun - though someone may come along here and give you good advice, surely a Peugeot tuning site would be the dogs wotsits for this sort of info.? Have a google and you'll find loads of info. already out here I warrant.

Best of luck.

aparently its not really worth changing the standard cam on them, as their fairly high lift(or whatever, cant remember) as standard, if you want 150 bhp+ you might be better off with an MI16 engine. anyway try the205gti drivers site and especially the forum

If I remember correctly, Andy Corner rallies a 205 fitted with an Mi16 on throttle bodies putting out some decent power. Saw him take to the grass to overtake an Escort Cossie on the Spring Stages at Oakington earlier this year.

id agree with the 2 above. go the tried and tested route (inc hillclime and race guys) and fit the MI16. it is an ace engine with loads of potencial if you want. over 160bhp stock and with a set of boddies you are looking at around 190bhp on the stock head!!!!!!

i will try and dig out some old CCC mags with some info on this unit. dave walker has set up a few and says they are ace.

thanks Chris. ps hope you get it running and most of all, have loads of fun!

Hi again,

Thanks for all the advice. I intend to run the car in either the standard road car class, or more likely, in the modified road class. Neither of these classes let you change the engine for a MI16.

There are a few guys running 205 with these engines, but they have to run in other (more expensive) classes - such as rally car class (slicks, perspect windows, etc - you get the picture)

My father in law has back issues of triple c going back years. I need to dig through them all really.

Great fun car. Wish I'd bought one years ago.
