Auto Gearbox

[TCO]

I have a Honda civic auto, when I am doing about 60 and I put my foot down, instead of dropping down a gear and off I go, it revs all the way, does not go into and does not go into gear and then I have to take my foot off to stop it bouncing off the limiter! Then it will go back in the higher gear.

Any ideas on why this may be happening?

It does not happen all the time, but it is strange!
