With regular oil changes (3,000 miles) then you can get mega-mileage from them. I worked in a garage that used a 3.5 for pulling a car trailer, when I left it had 247,000 miles and had just had a top-end overhaul (the first one).

I personally had a very sweet 3.5 Vogue with 120,000 on, no work done at all, just regular servicing.

heard lots about 'nikasil' problems and lots of adverts for cars with replacement engines!

Nikasil is a BMW problem. Rangies had the BMW diesel engine but Rover V8 petrols.
