Just bought some twin 40's for my Mk2 and the bloke i bought them off said it was best to run them with a twin throttle-cable set up - as if you use a single one it will pull the linkage [Magard variety] to one side, and not work properly? Something like that anyway, I am not all that clued up on carbs...

Anyway, do i have to run twin throttle-cables? Although i've seen quite a few cars fitted with twin carbs with them, it doesnt seem like everyone botheres.

Cheers, Greg.

For my dual 48's I went with a linkage setup. It does have twin cables, but only for a short distance, they are then connected to a single to the throttle.

The linkage mounts on the top of the rear carb, and uses little rod-ends that reach down between the carbs to actuate the throttle plates. Works like a charm.

the guy is full of sheet, twin cables are a nice add on,however twin return springs are a really good idea.
as a stuck open throttle is a really bad plan

On my none turbo midget which has standard twin carbs, there is only one throttle cable, this pulls the throttle bar between the 2 carbs, hence both pull at the same time. 3 springs then return this back by pulling from the heat shield onto the throttle bar.

FWIW I'd reckon the setup on boredpilot's midget is easier to adjust than twin cables.

Hi Greg,

Have run twin DCOEs using both off the shelf and home made linkages, all with only single cable and no problems.

Think the twin cable route is more of a race/rally thing as it means if you do snap a throttle cable you don't grind to a halt as the second cable will enable you to continue to the end.

Wouldn't bother for a road car.

Hi guys, thanks for all the advice.

I've not got them fitted yet or anything - when I do and if i have problems with the single cable i will report back to you for more help... hopefully with some pics of the linkage and stuff.

Cheers, Greg.

I've had a throttle cable snap on me on the M25 at national speed in the furthest overtaking lane! Not a good feeling!!! I've also had the pedal bar snap on me on the M1, not a good feeling!

Bugger it, just go for 2 cables! Its worth it IMO, but definitely bang a good return spring on...
