Here is a copy of the IMechE report about the Jaguar XK Engine. If you have ever wondered about the design of an engine, the rationale for design features, development testing, and some design features that to this day are being used, then this is worth a read.

You advance the pages by clicking the link at the top of the page - it's fairly obvious.

Good back to basics fundamental stuff. The V12 paper is also very informative. It's interesting to imagine how it was more one-person-multi-tasking on various engine design tasks back then, less specialised then now. To counter this, to a degree, -during my career, I've tried to go in deep and specialise but also keep my experience broad, it's been diffficult, but I think right now I have a good background. I think it would have been facinating to work on engnie projects back then.

It's nice to also see how Jaguar progressed from these engines to the more "revvy" V8s. The V8 work has been GREAT and some of the reports and work I was involved in with that was facinating (but mostly classified). I count myself quite lucky!

When we first did the AJ26 it was more old school than the current methodology. I had a summer in Powertrain NVH doing (amongst things) the V6, V8 and V12 targets for that engine. Happy days.... at least it helps me in job interviews.
