It's just next to the dipstick...

IIRC Rimmer Bros have a list of all engine numbers, that will tell you what the engine came from originally (if a standard Rover unit, not a TVR one)... try their website, it's certainly in their V8 Parts catalogue.

You will find the TVR engine number stamped below the head on the odd no's cyl block.
