Considering to replace a worn camshaft on my standard 3.5 Rover V8 (used in TVR 350i). Can I fit a Kent 218, or do I need pocketed pistons because of valve-lift requirements? Any further advice?
Remark: I don't want to change the pistons.

Thanks,
Rob

It's an excellent choice of cam and gives loads of grunt. Was fitted as standard to many a TVR It will bolt straight in.

Boosted, that sounds very good to start with!
Hadn't assumed it would/could be a straight swap, and would like to double check:
So you can confirm that the lift of a 218 is not more than 0.45"? As otherwise valves can hit pistons, etc. (and I am worried about this).

Do you know the lift of the 218 by the way? Can't find it, the 214 is at 0.494" and that is way over 0.45"! And read about a 214 requires machining (heads for the double springs to seat properly perhaps?), and the 218 is the 214 replacement.....
When TVRs are fitted with 218s, did they perhaps have pocketed pistons as standard?
Confusing myself now..., please help.

The 218 is a softer cam than 214 so likely to have less lift, sorry no spec to hand, pretty sure it will run with standard (non pocketed pistons)
TVR used the 214 in some of the models before they had their own special grinds. i don't think they ever fitted a standard 218, but probably based theirs on it.
BTW 218 is a good choice

Thanks for the replies.
Old cam is still 'working', like in not being overtaken by everybody.
First have to replace both sides front wheel bearings, etc. (the never ending TVR-story).

So, you want more power AND wheels that go round.
That's being gready.

I can't remember the lift now but they go straight in. I've fitted several of them without issues and never had to machine the heads either. Andymadmacs 400 SE had a 218 installed (presumably by TVR) and we replaced that with a V8D 218 hybrid, again there were no issues and iirc we also milled .030" off the block to raise compression and tighten the squish band a tad.
