ever had to use a hoover to change spark plugs?

Did a sevice on a friends Ford KA. My god how old are those Engines?

The spark plugs are at the front and open to the elements.Dead wasps grit and rust all around the plugs.

The plugs were also rusted in I had to use a hoover to get all the debris from around the old plugs so it didnt all fall in the cylinder.

Just remembered why I said Id never buy a ford again.

Is it too much to ask for a cover over the plugs on a 1999 car?

Heheheheh done the hoover bit myself many times.
Used an air line and blowgun in the trade tho, but gets in yer eyes, hair...everybloodywhere.

I've even got a special 20 quid car boot special 'garage' hoover just for such jobs ;-)

Airlines are just nasty when you hit a spot of oil sitting in a plug hole, your wearing it for weeks

I just asumed with the car looking modern that it would have a modern engine in it. I havnt seen an engine like that for years. Looks like ford just dressed up old technogy

It really wouldnt suprise me if it was a 50's design.

Yep, same engine.

Its been in all the Fords, its the oily 8v that sounds like a sewing machine.

Had one in my old fiesta, it took ages to remove all the rust and shite near the plug, what a crap design! I didnt have the idea of using a hoover though, nice thinking!


Never knew why ford put that engine in the Ka, why not use the nice new revy 1.25 zetec?
Sure it would fit.

Yup, I had to hoover all the crap from round the plugs on my old Fiesta. Gts all sorts of shite round it, which drops into the cylinder if you take the plug out

Probably cause the Ka came out before the 1.25 and they didn't think it was worth the re-engineering (so to speak).

I find the engine plenty revvy enough, just a bit breathless up the top end.

Try it on a jag v12... challenging, especially given the amount of crap that builds up within the 'vee'

That's an old trick, especially useful on cars that have been offroaded eg landrovers etc
