Simular symptoms on mine. It was a broken engine mount.

The wheels are turning due to 'oil drag' in the gearbox. Gears that should be spinning freely are 'sticking' to their shafts with the viscosity of the oil. Not really a problem, once the car's on its wheels it won't be able to generate enough drag.

What you've posted doesn't constitute a fault, as wedge said, it's just how things are.

ALL fiestas and indeed most FWD vehicles will do it.

If your friend is suffering with a knock during straight ahead driving which comes more when under load, look towards the inner CV joints.

A knock from that area will rise and fall to a degree with vehicle/engine speed. it can sometimes be felt too as a vibration through the floor, (passenger footwell seems to be the best place to feel it due to the proximity with the gearbox).

All this however assumes your friends fiesta is knocking when driving straight ahead on smooth ground.
let us know if it's happening when turning or when going down rough road surfaces.

I had a similar knocking sound in a former car. Turned out to be loose wheel nuts. Tell him to check that his wheel nuts are all tight, as well as the other stuff already mentioned above.
