Whats it made from? Foam perchance?
You can wash them out with filter cleaner supplied by the manufacturer of the filter, but it can be expensive stuff.
I prefer to use traffic film remover as its basically the same stuff and is also water soluble.
If youve never washed a filter out before, youll need to get a spray bottle to put the cleaner in, then give it a good ol' soaking and leave it sit for say 20 minutes.
Then to wash it out.
You MUST do this by washing from the INSIDE OUT not from the outside in!
If you do youll just wash the filtrate into the filter and when it dries itll get into the engine, so INSIDE to OUTSIDE is the correct method.
You can use warm water to remove the cleaner/dirt by putting the filter under the tap, that way all the dirt particles get flushed out.
Be patient as it can take some time to get them spotless and the water will run clear when its done.
Then just let it dry outside in the sun before re-oiling it.
Same procedures for a cotton/gauze filter apply.
