I want to replace my 1.4 k-series (multipoint inj) with a 2.0 k series engine. I would prefer to use a 2.0 16 vauxhall lump, but having never done an engine change before, I presume the rover option is the easiest route to more power.

What components I would need to get from the donor vehicle, and if there's anything from the 1.4 that I can keep?

It would be If any one has any advice, or can recommend a good place to start looking for an engine that would be much appreciated!

By the way the car is a Fisher Fury, and I think it has a type 9 gearbox.

Many thanks in advance.

the looms different for the differennt ecu, different injection system, different engine mountings.

Personally given the cost of 2.0 K-series engines I would go with the vauxhall, the only thing extra I would have thought would be different in the conversion the bell housing adaptor and possibly some clutch parts. It would probably work out cheaper!

not to mention the HGF problems notorious with k-series engines and I'm speaking from experience!

AFAIK the 1800cc K-series is the biggest production version. The 2000cc K-series used in certain top-end Caterham and MG Race cars is produced by Judd and if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it.

I believe, the 2000cc 16v engine (T16?) is based on the old O-series lumps found in Montegoes and Maestroes, and is an easy swap into those vehicles.

The 2.0l K has just started production in some MG cars now i think, but yes, the 1.8MPi and 1.8VVC are previously the biggeest and most easily available.

In my view teh 1.8MPi is the better to go for, if you fancy a bit of layman's tuning. THe VVC gets pricey to alter for bigger than standard power.

Check out www.roverbreakers.com - they will sort you out a very low mileage 1.8K for around 300-500 pounds. and likely give you all you need for it.

My advice is to get all the engine management systems and ancillaries like starters. Backplates are the same though IMO. ALl you need is what makes the car run.

T16 has its differences but, don't forget K = alloy, T/O/B = iron so you may upset your chassis-balancing. I'd stick to K.

The vauxhall is a great engine but getting hard to get hold of.

Guy,

I think you're right. I know someone who was looking to have his R500 with the 1800 upgraded to 2 litre, and was told it was a whole new engine, only available through Judd, or someone with a Judd link.

yeah, save one for me!

the Vauxhall swap shouldn't be too dificult as i know someone with a Fury running a 180bhp XE... if you give me some time i may be able to find you a link to his website and you could perhaps get some help

the XE is a bloody good engine, probably better than the K-series but heavier and getting old and rare now.

the replacement will probably be the Ford Zetec engine, a reasonable one should cost around £800 (the price of a very good carb'd XE) but obviously on top of that you would need to spend £1000 on carbs to get it up to the XE spec
