The alarm on my 1989 MR2 has decided to stop listening to the remote key fob, and doesn't want to un-immobilise the engine!! If anyone has any idea what I can do I would be most appreciative. I dont even know where the alarm is, and cannot find it. I know this sounds really pathetic, but I am really stuck, cos I dont know of anybody who can help. If anyone has had this problem in the past, or knows of anyone in the midlands area I could call, it would be very helpful.

Look in the yellow pages for autoelectricians, the alarm is probably aftermarket, thing is at this time on a sat or tomorrow won't be cheap!

Only thing I can add is that it must be an aftermarket one as they weren't fitted as standard. So the solution will vary depending on what model of immobiliser it is rather than the car.

Not much help I know!

Actually, it may as simple as flat batteries in the remote!

Make sure you're not parked under a mobile phone mast. I've heard these can scramble some remotes.

Does it have a makers name on the remote? If the alarm is late 80's/ early 90s I may have some service info.

The name on the remote is Servistar. Although I dont think its a problem with the remote.
I had the AA out to look at it (fortunatley my car is stuck outside my mates house so its not classed as home start which I dont have!!) and the guy says it something to do with a relay on the live feed in and out of the ignition. Makes no sense to me, but he said the only people who are gonna be able to fix it are Toyota! ( he also thinks my car may be an import!?!) So I am not really looking forward to that invoice!
If If anyone can help, with regards fixing, re-wiring or re-installing, I would be most grateful.

Sounds like there's a relay on the ignition that is part of the immobiliser, and that basically its died.

You need to determine where the relay is, see if its easy to remove (to take it to the toyota dealer or jap specialist), obtain replacement part and fit, see if it works, if not the AA man was wrong, if so wahey!

If it's a supercharger it's def a grey import. If not, probably not.

If the rear wheel arches are rust free it's prob a grey import

Cheers for all the info guys. I eventually got it down to Toyota and they stripped the alarm, and refitted a relay on the ignition which had been changed by the alarm fitters 11 years ago when the alarm was fitted! {all for the modest charge of £120!}
So now my car works, but has no alarm or immobiliser, anyone recommend a good one that fairly cheap?
