Just had this done to my SEAC,get the car back early next week.Let you know how i get on.I went for the 3 stage coating,two on the outside and one on the inside.
I bought my exhaust from www.actproducts.co.uk/index.html and Tim sorted the coating out for me.

Not cheap,If you want it for your car i would go for the exhaust bandage.

thanks for the email, I'm looking into it but I have a cast-iron upper exhaust (whats it called, it's not the manifold itself is it?) which by my understanding you don't put exhaust wrap on, but a blanket (tape causes heat spots).

With it been in a kit-car and not the correct application it wobbles a fair bit so I can't heat it up any further without it snapping again. I'm thinking I'll need a new upper exhaust later this year (2nd one the car has gone through this past year) so will get a better Stainless steel or similar next time.

In the DeTomaso world, there's a fair amount of talk about ceremic coating headers and exhaust. Cutting to the chase, users report significant under-hood (bonnet) temperatures. That heat goes somewhere, so make sure your mufflers (silencers?) can deal with it.

Ceremic coating basically means that these headers will live longer than you or I, which helps make the high cost more acceptable.

In our applications, there have been warnings against using header wrap, as moisture can get trapped underneath and your headers will slowly rot from underneath the bandages.

Anyway, I've spoken to numerous people who have done it and are very happy with the result. It's called "jet-hot coating" in the US. It also can make your headers look pretty, if you are into that. I've heard second-hand warnings to avoid wrapping because of the accelerated deteriation of the headers underneath...

I have used a DIY product Black Satin, but I usually only have a under bonnet temp prob with say a 2hr jam on a hot day, so luckily not yet put to test.

Wrap should be OK with SS but can cause a problem with non crossflow.

I remember years ago talking to an owner of asn Aston V8, who had the exhaust ceramically lined inside. It costed a little short of £10,000...

Either he was one of the first, or they saw him coming!

They saw him coming!

I have internally/externally ceramic coating on my GTR. It cost about 350 quid! Made quite a difference to under canopy temps too (as it says on the tin).

My TVR was a little less than that, but discounted for folding stuff. I think all the Chrome, Pink, colours of the rainbow brigade pay a lot more than the basic satin black stuff used for heat insulation.
