S2 in trouble in Kent

Anyone out there who can help me?
My S2 is running filthy rich and with a tickover of 2000 rpm. We are talking bore washing here!
My mechanic is a great guy but as stumped as I am and now significantly richer than me!
Am stumped what I can try next and bent over the engine emploring it to tell me whats wrong.
HELP ME PLEASE S2 lovers!
