Does it always take that long to clear the strip after an "incident"? I'd never been to a drag meet before and I was surprised to be waiting 40 minutes or so whilst the little tractor pootled around.

I understand the reasons for it, just wondered if it is standard?

depends on how much oil has been dropped, i've waited
over an hour for action when a car dumped oil over the whole length of the track, drying after a rain shower takes even longer

You should've been at the Main Event at Santa Pod at the end of May....some BIG top fuel engine blow-ups. Total of 13 oildowns, which in years gone by would've scuppered an event, but the track crew were heroic and got everything done.

That's the one downside to drag racing though - it's an awesome sight seeing a top fuel dragster hit 303mph in 4.9 seconds, but when they go pop, boy does it leave a mess behind!

By the way, I'm assuming the jet car everyone is talking about was Firestorm? If you think that was quick, check out Martin Hill's Fireforce 2 car - has run it down to 5.79 @ 275mph this season.
