I was only able to attend for part of today, but got there early ish.

Nice selection of cars there, and the weather was stunning. Drag racing was a laugh when it was running, seemed everytime we went for a look someone blew up and they spent about 45mins cleaning up.

One down side was the getting in etc. When I arrived I wasn't allowed in initially as I apparantly didn't have the correct pass (I had ordered the right one). I had 2 tickets and a sticker, no-one wanted to see either of the tickets (apparantly I should have had a business card or something?). Eventually got in and park up with the others. I was also a bit disappointed when I left at approx 1:30. There was no-one checking tickets etc so anyone arriving could just drive straight in for free.

Overall I had hoped it was going to be a bit bigger but a nice day out helped by the weather and a nice selection of cars.

Thanks for the feedback Mark. It was our first event so a few hiccups were encountered but we shall learn and improve...

Personally I'd hope that next time it would be OUR event.

As I stood on the grassy knoll overlooking the drag strip pissing myself laughing at Flashers Boycie from Only Fools' impression (it was Boycie, wasn't it Andy?), I wish I'd thought of slicking my hair back for the day. And with my Hawaiin shirt amd shorts, in amongst all the jeans and white T shirts I rather stuck out like a bulldog's bollocks.

Only two other points really: Well done Ted for the first major PH event. A good foundation to build PF2004 on.

Secondly - that toilet on site wasn't enough, I'm afraid. One loo for several hundred people, most of whom had been sick in it apparently was a bloody disgrace. Thank God the Kermits up near the drag strip were better - marginally.

PS - good to meet you at last Ted - wish we could have spoken for longer.

Ted,

Top event - great weekend.

But where was the pie van then? The burger van was great but no match for a true pie...

Are you going to make the donut & j-turn camping event a formal part of next year? If so I think we should all have a whip road for the Scooby that was entertaining all us campers so well until the black clouds appeared from it's exhaust...

Only other comment would have been to move the aution early in the day to get more people - although it would have meant less bargins for the rest of us though...

Big thanks to the guys at RideDrive for their hospitality, and to Tim @ ACT for the silencer testing (lowered by 8Db and worked a treat!).

Many thanks to Ted & the team, as well as to the 'traders' who all gave so much to it.

Can't wait until next time...

Ian & Nickie

p.s. Was I the only one to lose my Chim front splitter in the camp site? (perhaps next time a dealer could do an on-site fitting service)

p.p.s. Time for PistonLotion to make a showing to protect all us 'people of lesser hair' when out in the sun?

p.p.p.s. Hi to 'GAZ 3884' enjoyed the drive bck down the M40, nice car!

Cheers for organising it ted!

Few comments:

1) No signage at the front coming from the east to tell you that its there.

2) The 'Piston Loo' .. perhaps piston loos next time?

3) No water tap in pistonfest enclosure.

4) 90p for a can from the piston pub was extorsionate.

5) No hog roast by tea, or any indication of what it was or where we could get it.

Apart from that...

... cheers!

Oh and one last thing, ban flasher next time will ya

Slight moan .... we got there 12ish today to be told the enclosure was full. Felt slightly cheated that we had to park our Tivs in the camping enclosure, having paid £10 each for 2 cars, and then someone made a determined effort (alongside the Mannings tent) to stop us gettting back to our cars. I snook mine in later anyway, but all the same.

Top day nevertheless, and I've got more shiny bits on the Tiv now!

Greg

I actually felt the opposite, the drag racing gave me something to watch as there wasnt a great deal organised to do once you had walked round the Piston"field" for the 500th time in a weekend!

What a conceited post.

Personally I thought watching the Drag Racing was one of the highlights of the weekend.

As for calling them "Gyppo's", I find this extremely insulting to a group of car enthusiasts who produce some really awesome performing and looking cars to the absolute top level, mostly from their own expert engineering skills, knowledge and endeavour.

To me, this must be far more rewarding than going into a dealer with a shed-load of cash and saying "I'll have that one".

Slicked-back hair or whatever, I'm sure that they're as honest as a day is long and a great bunch of blokes.

I would of liked to have hung around to see if their area was as littered as the Pistonhead's area was as I left.

Have to say that the "Gypsies" as quoted looked a bit frightening - bald head ,goatee, tats etc - but when you got chatting to them about their motor they were resally soft, pleasant and down to earth guys, with a common interest in all things petrol (or nitro).

I have a real respect for someone who takes an item and lavishes love and attention on it to produce something that they want and is different from the others

What would the world be like without sub12 fiats?

Shows that stereotyping doesnt work.

Not all blokes with blonde hair are marshall mathers!

I agree with Gemini, I chatted to a couple of racers and they are really nice blokes, who love anything petrol, and could talk about their cars all day long.

It's just the whole 45 minutes breaks between 10 second runs that doesn't make the sport appealling!

Snap,

Whare was the hog roast?

Wife came along but has said she would not next year if there were not better camping facilities, we paid a fair wack for virtually no facilities, also paying to park in the ring was a rip off.

Lack of drinking water and basic hygine facilities are vital - at best they were nasty and at worst could have serious health implication and probably breach health and safety regs.

At first a light in the loo would have been good, but probably not as the time went on.

Hog roast? where did that go? very sad not to have that.

On a positive note,

It was good to meet up and say hello to some of the other Pistonheads, and to see their cars. That made the trip enjoyable as did the band and music who were excellent.

A great weekend - congratulations to PetrolTed and all the PistonFest crew.

The good stuff:
- both bands and the entertainment on Saturday night.
- trade stands and PistonFest car enclosure.
- camping arrangements.

Things to think about for the next one:
- toilet facilities within the PF enclosure.
- food: there didn't appear to be a 'bigger meal' option for the Saturday night: where was the Hog Roast?
- publicising PF activities: I'd sure the radio controlled drag racing must have been going on somewhere, but I'm not sure where (or when).
- consider more activities/entertainment within PF area to keep people there; this can only help with auction numbers as well. For those not so interested in drag racing and cars they ran out of things to do and see.

Roll on the next PF.

There is nothing like a big V8 and the sounds coming from the drag strip and campsite were awesome when we arrived on the sunday.

Good to see the ultimas and the vipers plus the custom cars

I enjoyed and will support the event next year

Any body notice the price of burgers go from £2.50 to £3.00 at dinner time at the compound burger joint.
Wife got covered with hot cooking fat for that extra 50p. Change the burger for next year Ted.

Who won the raffle.
