Anyone know what the roads are like around the venue? i.e which are nice and twisty and fun? which are busy and best avoided?

Would be useful to know if anyone knows the area well.

the venue is about 15 mins out of the centre of Stratford, out in the sticks a bit like most tracks, country'ish single lane road from both directions, the only thing is they some times they hold a market on other parts on the grounds on certain weekends, so you guessed it the road in is often choked

No market that weekend though, Pistonfest uses the market area

As of end of last year, roads round Stratford (to north and east at least) still free of fixed Tax cameras, though Warwickshire police do have mobile units.

I work in Stratford....

The Stratford bypass is a favourite spot for the mobile cameras (there are about 35 mobiles and 7 fixe jobbies in Warwickshire), and there are some new fixed units on the main road from Alcester to Stratford. Can't remember the road numbers I'afraid. There is a web site where they publish the locations of the mobles on any particular day. I will post it when I find it!

Nice one, I think a few people on here will want to know the locations come the weekend of Pistonfest.

From Alcester....turn RIGHT off the A46 just before Stag Hill (approx. 1m after you come off Alcester bypass), then through Binton village and down a couple of nasty sweepers till you reach the T junction with the old A439. Right, and immediate left, over the River Avon, thru Welford, as you come out of Welford look out for the slot left just before the Ordnance Dump, turn left here, over the old level crossing. Follow this to the end, and turn left at T Junction. Avon Park is on LHS after approx 1 mile, and youve just saved yourselves shedloads of time not having to go thru Stratford being stared at by fat Americans.

I did see a camera van on the A46(?) on my first visit to the venue.

The Sunday Market will be there - we're in a different part of the site.

As has been said there are a few cameras on the A46 heading towards Worcester/Evesham, but it is clear from th M40. I often used to drive past vans on the London road just past the golf course, but they seemed to be a weekday phenomena. If you have your RDS on, the BBC broadcasts the location of safety cameras ('working in partnership to make warwickshires roads safer')with the traffic reports.

Lots of interesting roads near Avon Park - Used to live in welford. echo the best way to it being through Welford, avoiding stratford if you can, Stratford's a bloody nightmare on saturdays...

Thanks for the local info guys, I couldn't agree more with what you have all said above.
The site has been cleaned up a lot, so no such problems with the driving surfaces.
As Ted says, the market will be happening also.

For those looking for info on local speed cameras, here's a couple of links for more info:

www.ukgatsos.com/

You will all be able to come & go as you please for test drives etc - there will be a "pass-out" system at the main gate for all to use- just collect your pass on exit, and hand it in upon re-entry.

Pistonfest,

Just to confirm re. driving surfaces within the PH area (apologies if this this has already been covered somewhere).

I assume that as we are camping next to our tents, then this will be on grass, as such, are we likely to have any problems in relation to (i) having to drive over rutted fields and (ii) having to negitiate any ramps to get into the enclosure. I only ask because last year at Le Mans the access into our camping area was scraping the valences of all the "low" cars.

Bit late to worry now as I've bought my tickets anyway.

Tony,

PS. I hope you've cancelled the rain for the week-end or we could be having Glatonbury style mud once a few cars are in the PH enclosure.

Tony,
Because the numbers attending PistonFest are ever-increasing, we have had to move our plot to a larger section. This is now next to the paddock, and a much larger & flatter area than we originally had been allocated.
The venue owners are constructing 2 roads purely for our access, and they fully understand our concerns about ground clearances.
We walked the plot last Wednesday, and it was fine for all (based on a 3" clearance for Vipers/ TVR's/ Lambo's etc)- and the area we now have will also be rolled and flattened even more by the time the event comes around........hopefully this answers your concerns (it was one of our main points at the site survey).
Obviously speeds on-site will have to be kept to a minimum because of public & pedestrians etc, there will be marshalls to ensure that this happens & this should also help prevent any "bottoming out". There will be no ramps whatsoever, and the access roads for us will be freshly laid immediately before PistonFest. A big commitment from the venue has been understood & offered to ensure our needs are met.

Regarding the weather- we have paid a deposit to book the sunshine- let's hope the suppier doesn't go into "liquidation"!!!!!!
