Ok guys,

We have had a few good days out on the karts already this year, I have been discussing with Ted starting the Pistonheads Karting Challenge.

Would go something like this.....

8 races during the year - best 6 of 8 scores to count to league (gives you room to miss a couple and still be competitive.
Weight penalties to lighter drivers to event it up.
Arrive and Drive format - All helmets overalls karts etc provided.
Various kart circuits around the Country, on 8 different weekends.
Teams of 2 or more bodies (races will be charged per team not per person, so it is upto you.
Own forum and results etc all on PH
PH Trophies for each race.
There would be a small entrance fee per team or driver to enter the challenge to cover costs in organising it all, etc.

What we need at the moment is a guage of interest etc and your ideas, would be aiming to get this up and running ASAP if enough people are up for it.

So whadda ya think guys and girls

I'm interested.

Can we include Daytona MK please - Loverly track!

Also how do you intend to deal with sites where half the Karts are crap?

Daytona will definately be on the agenda, also Whilton Mill, PFI, Shennington, Buckmore Park - Will stick to the top circuits where we can

And I will presonally check out all sites in advance, it's a hard job but someone has to do it..

I'd come but I'm a bit short on cash at the mo (even by student standards!). Still, I'll happily make up the numbers on any I can get to.

How much is it going to cost?

I throw a mean lap of Buckmore park. My old company have invited me back to the industry challege as a ringer...

For those that cant raise a team - we can organise teams from individuals that are interested.

Also anyone that wants odd race here and there I am sure would be welcomed to make up numbers as I know it is hard with teams to get everyone to everyrace....

So we could easily operate a reserves list.

And yes I have heard thruxton is good, will have to give them a call and take a look

Top idea!

Rubs hands gleefully at possibly the first kart race that I have ever been involved in that I am not in the 'pie' position at the back!

Is there a recognised formula for weight handicapping in karting? Will Patrick have to take a set of scales to each race

Yes it does boil down to a set of scales, a load of lead sheet and gaffer tape, and a specified minumum driver weight

But hey it all adds to the fun

essentially it will be down to the drivers to ensure that are weighted up to the minimum, I can supply lead and seat liners if required to achieve this.

At each race we will check a number of drivers (not everyone) just to make sure that no one is cheating.

Would it not be easier to run to classes - 1 - total weight under 160Kgs and 2 over 160Kgs or something...

Sounds great but I am already running in two championships this year so even if I had the money I dont have the time.

As for track suggestions try Clay Pigeon, ok its in Dorset and a bit out the way but drive it once and you will love it. Its my next race.

As suggested Whilton Mill, raced there a couple of weeks ago and a great track.

Have you thought about Lydd, Bayford Meadows, Ellough Park www.karting.co.uk/tracks/TrackList.asp

Again, will scout for the tracks once we have got an idea of if we can go ahead or not.

But all ideas welcome
