With the Teeside boys and girls wanting a meet and the weather being so good I made enqs with a "certain" Castle in Yorkshire, Nr A1 (good access). Got an internal email sent to me by mistake which read along the lines of "we already have the MG club coming and these people only seem to want a venue - not much money in it for us".
Im shocked and disgusted that they think MG will be a bigger crowd puller than us!
Back to the drawing board then Nubbin?

Meetings arranged by members of the forums are not 'official' PistonHeads events and are not covered by our public liability insurance.
That's why I've had to distance myself from some of the unofficial events because it gets a bit messy on the legal side.
If you're organising a gathering I unfortunately have to request that you make it clear in any negotiations with venues that the event is not organised on behalf of PistonHeads.com.
Annoying, but that's the society we live in these days.
Anyway, I'll get back to everyone shortly if an official summer pistonfest can be sorted.

The talks we had this week centred around getting a VW type tyre kicking event organised somewhere more central in the country coupled with some other attraction(s).
That would be viewed as a toe in the water and then plans could be put in place for a bigger event in 2004.
It's down to economics unfortunately. The event needs to be profitable in order to fund its organisation.
Anyway, the guys I've found to manage it seem to know what they're doing. It's now just a question of creating a viable plan that suits all involved. Please don't get too excited as its still very early days, but at least wheels are in motion to assess how it could work.

gemini - send them an e-mail making it clear that we are aware of their attitude - what will MG offer? Will a fee be charged? Maybe mention the attraction a gathering of TVR's causes, and the large numbers we get to attend, and the gate money they would receive. Reminds me of Clumber Park's attitude. Or would you like me to do it? (I love a barney!)
My next thought would be the army vehicle museum near Beverley? Bit of a PH (sorry, PIE!!) Duxford, but obviously without the racing. They might be a little more welcoming.

Its the insurance thats buggering it - most fixed venues now wnat milliomns of PL cover
Ive emailed english heritage and informed them of the differences between a Tartan blanket clan meet (MG)and the exotica provided by PH - its their problem (attitude of the old!)
I would now leave it - their loss
Richmond market place would be a good gathering though If we could get it coned off and council approval (I emaled the number to you)
Great scenic location
Loads of space
Plenty of eateries / pubs
and Yorkshire sunshine!
I think any museum etc will still want insurance - Teds finding this now

If your thinking Beverley (as in Army Transport Museum) then what about Beverley Westwood a popular picnic and walking area. This is a huge area of common grazing land adjacent to Beverley. To give you an idea of the size of the place there is a Golf Course and Beverly Race Course with more than enough room for us to park out of sight of either. The only down side is that as you pull off the road in some of the more popular areas you have to watch the ground clearance and the only facilities are the occasional ice-cream van, oh and the cow s**t.
Just a thought,
Simon

Psychobert said: Ted - Not going to hold you to it, but any idea of a date? Sooner we know the better the turn out.. We'll find something else to do if it falls through, but if you could give us a hint..
I don't have a date. My efforts have been concentrated on finding a way of organising such events in general rather than in organising the event itself.
All I wanted to do here was let you know that I am trying to put the foundations in place. Long way to go yet.
