As part of the 2003 events programme for the TVRCC Surrey Region we'll be running Surrey Sundays on the first Sunday of each month. The format is simple. Arrive at a pub somewhere in Surrey, have lunch and then go for a drive. First pub will be the Wotton Hatch off the A25 between Dorking and Guildford. After that we'll find a new pub to sample each month. If you've ever felt that these events are too far from you, then now's your chance to pick a pub near you. If any of you PHers fancy turning up to these events, wherever you're from and whatever you drive, I know you'll be welcome.

Cheers,

Steve

P.S. Also planned are breakfast runs and chip shop runs down to the coast, to take advantage of the clearer roads at that time of day.

Steve,

Sounds good, although it will clash with Mid Essex's monthly meeting, as well as SE London / NW Kent's informal monthly meet, so the more eastern folks might not be present, but I guess that depends on the venue and roads suggested for the drive

Won't be able to make it in March myself, but perhaps April...

You beat me to it Rob

Its a great idea but as tripps says it clashes with 2 other local regions, something to chat about at the next SE London & N Kent meet on Monday 24th.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't realised there was a clash. The main aim of this is to get the Surrey TVRCC folks out and driving their cars. The clash does have the plus that there's three groups of like minded folks out and about on the same day, giving an opportunity for a collective get together. We'll see how things pan out.

Cheers,
Steve.

Come on Guys, give Steve a break.

If you choose a Sunday, which is a popular choice, you have choice of 4. So you will clash with someone, somewhere.

Yep, spot on Joust, that's the place.

To put this in context, Karen (Mrs. T) has recently taken over the write up for Surrey TVRCC in Sprint. On the basis of the write up, Surrey does not appear to do much, compared to other regions. I don't believe this is true, more that what has happened or will happen is not publicised that well.

The meet at the Talbot has good turnouts and these continue to improve, this is great news. However, I know probably just as many people through informal events, co-ordinated through PH, such as the Surrey Run and VW meets. A good number own TVRs. This suggested to me that there was a place for a regular driving meet for those who have hectic working lives, or simply enjoy a blast in their car as well as a natter in the pub.

Regarding clashes, the main focus of this event is to give the Surrey folks this different kind of event. It's certainly not to say that anyone else will not be welcome, quite the opposite in fact. I have met and continue to meet some really great people through PH.

If it proves better to adjust the timing, combine the event with those of other like minded groups, or whatever, then fine, let it happen. The main thing for me though is that these events evolve into the appropriate form with everyone's participation. If you witness the tour de force that the Surrey Run has become, then you'll see what I mean.

Looking forward to the Dorset Dawdle, hope to see some of you there
All the best,

Steve (& Karen)

What I think tripps & myself were trying to get across is that, given the choice, we would change the date of our meet to enable us to tag along with you guys.

We regularly go to meets outside our own region, such as yours, E.Sussex, mid Essex & mid Kent.

We are trying to generate more interest in our region at the moment with great success, like you guys, there is a lot more going on than people realise. The problem we have is that nobody else gets to hear about it. (Im being as subtle as I can here, please bear with me).

A few of us hope to see you at The Talbot next week, & with luck we can arrange for a Sunday drive & inter region meet in the not too distant future.

Nick,

I do understand your position, it's not easy to pick a date that doesn't clash with anyone else. To be fair I picked this date looking only at the Surrey Events Calendar, but we have to start somewhere. As I said before there's certainly not the aim of excluding anyone, but there's only so much you can do. The possibility of combining events is easier than juggling dates, since with 4/5 weekends a month, it's easy to clash with someone each time you try to pick another date.

I think it's best to look at an inter-region meet once this event is up and running and we have some idea of the numbers of folks who might turn up. The number of pubs who could accomodate us will reduce dramatically if this type of event proves popular and we combine a few large groups as an inter-region event. Hopefully I'll see you at the Talbot and we can discuss further.

Cheers,

Steve

Just checked the Surrey newsletter. It says 12pm at the Wotton Hatch, so 12 it is.

Karen here!. Just putting the finishing touches to the route. It's going to be a blinder . In the style of Yuri Geller, put your hand on the screen and (using the power of positive thought) transmit an image of SUNSHINE IN SURREY! . After tonights down pour there can't be any rain left up there!.

See you at the pub.
Night night.

The thought worked. What a loverly run - The start was just what a Chimaera needs, twisty bits with staright bits in between. A good run out to the pub - a good choice. Thanks for making sure I was OK to find me way back.

My ears are just about getting back to normal after the resonance of the Chims

See you next week at VW - possibly with a definite venue for you know what !
