Did anybody else go? This was our 3rd visit and it was pretty underwhelming, the big screens weren’t being used, so you had no idea what was happening around the circuit, no where selling programmes (the only place we could find them was in the media centre and they weren’t selling them), fewer cars racing and empty grandstands.

My son and I went about 5 years ago and it was a great weekend and felt like it was about to get a bit bigger . It was quite busy and we commented that it was nice it was not hugely popular and full of people. Sounds like it's gone downhill

I went this year. I think the atmosphere wasn't helped by the weather for pretty much the whole weekend.
It's a great event for the racing on a fantastic circuit but the off track entertainment and facilities are fairly limited.

I have been a few times and felt this one wasn't as well organised as previous years.

Is the 'Six Hour' event in September still the big classic meeting at Spa? I went to that a few (a lot!) years ago when some friends were racing Ginettas on the undercard, and it was excellent - lots of Ford GT40s in the dark etc.

I went, the weather was horrendous on the friday and gradually improved through the weekend; it has such an effect on the whole experience.

I think that the 6hrs is the better classic event overall although neither really has anything else going on particularly other than the racing and a few car club gatherings.

Small grumbles are the lack of food options, there used to be all sorts although you did have to pay with a plastic triangle (whether that is only for the 6hrs I don't know) and although the huge new grandstand at the top of Eau Rouge is a great addition for spectators I think I'd prefer the little chalet bar that served a far more important role.

However, at 43E for the weekend it's an absolute bargain to watch some of the most iconic racing cars at one of the best circuits in the world.

I agree with all of the above. The weather didn’t help and some of the organisation, and grids, were below par. But it is the chance to see some great cars on an iconic circuit, and at the club rate of €35 for 3 days, is a bargain.

I am planning to go to Spa for the classic 6hrs at the end of September. Owing to my dislike of the M25 and the drive down to the tunnel or Dover, I will be using the Portsmouth to Caen overnight service. Does anyone have suggestions for an interesting route to Spa or interesting places to visit on the way?

I will be camping at Spa so any recommendations of places to eat would be welcome.

There is a good WW2 museum in Caen (plus, of course, lots of 'D-Day' and Battle of Normandy sites/sights in that area).

You'll also pass a load of WW1 sites on the French/Belgian border region, which might be a more convenient half way stopover.

You'll also go by Charleroi which is famous for being the ugliest city in the world. biggrin
