Every year, I say, this will be the year I go... Sadly never got the chance.

Sadly the Green Party, despite no longer being in power in Brighton & Hove, still managed to finally win this.

A very sad day for motorsport and all the businesses that would have been impacted by this decision.

Massive shame to loose the oldest event in Motorsport history.

@SarahGoodwood

Huge opportunity for Goodwood I would say.

Run the Speed trials at the house or the circuit on the same weekend as it traditionally happened.

Call it Brighton Speed Trials at Goodwood.

Ideally there’s a 1/4 mile straight with run out, but it’s the spirit of the event that matters not the form I would say.

Doesn't the B+H Motor Club already have a Goodwood Sprint event ?

Two events I believe but neither is quite like the Madeira Drive event. Perhaps, if Goodwood can host it, the Revival weekend would be the time to incorporate it as it was in the spirit of the revival to a great extent. Unfortunately I've lost the Duke's personal mobile number... tongue out

Luckily for me I live quite close to the venue of another very old event - Kop Hill Climb in the Chilterns. A pale shadow but a great weekend for automotive nostalgia.

A huge part of my upbringing. My father was often able to secure some tickets through work or through suppliers (he was a car mechanic), so on that saturday I'd wait with excitement for him to come home, then we'd take the bus down to the seafront and go for a good wander around th cars and bikes. As I grew up and moved away from brighton, I always made sure to head back for the speed trials, staying right to the end for the fastest competitors of the day - the bikes.

A terrible shame it'll be no more.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for getting in touch.

We too were saddened to hear of the ending of the Brighton and Hove Speed Trials, and recognise that this must have been a very difficult decision for the organisers, and upsetting news for the fans and participants.

The Brighton and Hove Motor Club do hold Sprint events with us here at Goodwood a few times throughout the year. Should the club be interested in hosting further events with us, they would need to get in touch with us directly so that the needs and requirements of the event can be discussed with the appropriate events planners.

Kind regards,
Sarah
I asked the question directly.

Hopefully something can be sorted out.

This is terribly sad news for all involved. I’ve been going to the speed trials since about 1996.
