Firle Beacon Event
Discussion
This looks like an interesting meeting coming up this weekend, 30th/31st July, www.firlebeacon.com and wondered if anybody else is coming along. I'm taking part in the Sprint event
I’ll be driving a Merc R230 SL600
It is the the first year for the event but the entry list is
really good…plenty of decent cars on the rally stage; group B are well represented with Metro’s, Audi, RS200’s, Lancia along with plenty of Escorts….100 entries for this part
Sprint is made up of TVR’s, Cobra, Aston Martins, a couple of NASCAR’s and me!
Bo Peep class has around sixty varied but good entries
There has been plenty of thought gone into and from the
detail that comes it is very professionally done also

I had a good day at Firle today. A lot of rally cars, classic cars and sports cars. It just needs more people to go along and watch it because it could easily have taken 5 times as many people without feeling crowded. I had a long chat with various owners of cars on display.
Being the first event, there are quite a few rough edges, but if you want to see all these wonderful cars, you will enjoy it.

I did wonder how they would do attendance wise with the ticket price, several friends of mine said they were not prepared to pay £42.00. I managed to get a family ticket for £54.00 so we're taking our grandaughters tomorrow, they're only 10 and 7 but you've got to get them started early,
Obviously I was running yesterday in Sprint, can’t make it back today, and think the day was a huge success. This is the first year of building and new event so as to learn the teaching issues for a bigger lush next year
The area is vast and as such the crowd is well spread but was low in number; I think that’s due to pricing (which I think had certainly frightened a few off) and and I don’t think the marketing got to enough people.
However, the quality of the entry list is fanatic, the rally section is the main event with Sprint and Bo-Peep being filler while the cars are brought down and to give them a break.
I had to stay close to paddock for obvious reasons and the section in front of the house over the cattle grid is great fun, if liked to have gone further afield and see them through the village and up the hill.
Car wise...Quatros, RS200s, Lancia 037, 6R4’s, plenty of very good Mark one and two Escorts, Fulvias, Minis, Subaru’s.....all getting much quicker as the day went
In summary I’d say it’s worth the entry price but to pull a larger crowd should have been cheaper (this year you’ll have no issue viewing and being close up and personal) , the quality of the event is good and as this is the first I think they have succeeded in creating the foundations of a great annual event.....I’m certainly going next year whether I’m running or not

I went along yesterday. For a first time event, I thought it was excellent. Yes, a few improvements could be made, but they are on a learning curve, so felt they did really well . Some great cars there. Friendly people, drivers willing to chat. Loads of food and drink vendors ( too many?) Overall a good day.
