I marshal various events as an msuk registered marshal. The “ lm so clever” merchant are a curse of many events. The ever posted put request for sensible behaviour is conveniently ignored by a few but it can ruin it and cause a demise event situation. We always struggle to get overly enough volunteers to man everywhere and to do other peoples thinking.
I was there today, as you say, great 'little' event, especially for a donation.
We arrived just after the incident, as the ambulance arrived and hoping the motorbike rider is okay.
A car park marshall would make sense, but I'm not sure how many of the rotary club members would fancy taking that on.
If anyone hasnt been, then is t recommend it for a friendly event and a bacon roll in a lovely setting.

Some really impressive cars on display in the courtyard and some not so much. Have to say the whole ‘at Marshall’s discretion’ thing about whether they let you park on display/ under the trees or turn you around and send you back up to the car park down the road is a bit elitist/ arbitrary.
Its a great event that brings in a good amount of money for charity. Point to note, I am a local so know the road well, but I am not related to the event, charity or the volunteers.
Ref the original post, its off the mark isn't it? You said you don't mind some hooligan action, yet the toys are out because you want the event to man the entry to a separate car park. The event can't change the position of the unrelated car park and there is no viable alternative in that area. Where do you draw the line with what needs marshalling, what about the roundabout 100 yards further up the road? I'm not even sure legally the marshals would have any right to marshal a public road.
I was there, but didn't see the incident, only the aftermath but I assume it was a lack of concentration as there is a lot to be distracted by (people milling about, cars etc). Shoppers manage to use that junction without incident on the whole. Its not the best junction, but it isn't horrendous either. I'm definitely in the camp that people should take responsibility for their own actions and not require babysitting into car parks.
Hopefully everyone is OK other than bumps and bruises and a damaged pride.
Weather was mega, cars were good and people friendly. What more could you ask for in return for a small donation to a local charity.

The Rotary Marshall have no clue on cars???? why oh why are the Marshaling an event Lord Pembroke needs to look at this.
The Rotary do do a great job and my old man is one, not at this event I must add.
This little lady asked my wife 4 times have you got a ticket?? she nearly blew her top at this point.
I am more than happy to give to charity, I do but on my own terms not to these idiot in high vis Jacket who have no clue on cars or peoples finances.

The Marshall’s discretion about what gets let in and what gets turned away is quite bizarre it must be said. Diesel Macan is apparently a performance icon, as is a Barry Boy Fiesta. An E39 M5 however - nope, turn around mate and park in the public overflow down the road Young son was a bit upset about that one.

"It's a Porsche, so must be posh'"Not sure what that is, so let it in" for the Fiesta
"It's just an old BMW, I had one of those when I was the regional manager for Walls sausages back in 95" for your lovely M5.

I think that pretty much sums up their thought process. Of course it shouldn’t really matter and I shouldn’t feel aggrieved - but it’s oddly offensive being turned away, when there was plenty of space too. Bit like turning up to a nightclub in the wrong shoes or something - felt like I didn’t belong. "Not sure what that is, so let it in" for the Fiesta
