Angouleme 2022
Discussion
You’ll love it, it’s a really special event and the nightlife is brilliant.
We’ve just booked accommodation as it does get tricky to find somewhere decent as it gets closer to the event.

We usually drive out to Brantome on the Saturday for a spot of lunch…the roads from Angouleme through the forests are absolutely incredible…

And Brantome is beautiful

Good stuff
Have you booked grandstand seats? We did the first year then didn’t bother for a few visits.
Then in 2019 it seemed much busier and the only decent viewing spots were from the grandstands. The crowds were packed making it very difficult to get a decent viewpoint.
It didn’t help be being soooo hot it was uncomfortable to view anywhere not in the shade…
We’ve now booked seats for this year…

Haven’t booked any tickets yet, do you recommend any particular grandstand.Have you booked grandstand seats? We did the first year then didn’t bother for a few visits.

Cathedrale is good, also the one opposite the paddock exit gives a great view of the cars diving into the left hander, thinks it’s called Carnot. Our accommodation is in the Appart Hotel so nice and easy walk into the centre
We’ve stayed at Appart City a few times, the one near the river on the north side. Decent location, clean and the rooms are fine, bit of a walk up the hill but fine to roll back down again after a few glasses of something cold
Oh…and try Cafe Chaud, wonderful place
Definitely keen to give this event a go this year. Had my eye on it for a couple of years but Covid was the blocker.
A mate who has a place in France is a regular so I'll chase him up to see if he can recommend some accommodation.
We'll probably be in our 1930 vintage so I guess it will take a day or two to get there.

Just to give this a bump as we are nearing the date....I have been invited down by a colleague who lives nearby and is a huge petrol head and goes every year. Having never been to the South of France, let alone Angouleme/Circuit des Remparts, i'm really looking forward to it.
We'll be taking one of his 'fleet' out for the rally on the Saturday and will obviously try and find a suitable vantage point on the Sunday for the racing (sadly grandstand tickets were sold out by the time the other half authorised my pass for the weekend)
Anyone else going?

The roads towards Brantome are superb and pretty much traffic free.
Thoroughly recommended for a drive out that way for lunch on the Saturday.
If you time it right you can join in with all the cars on the rally on the way back to Angouleme.
We’ll be off this time next week
Excellent. We're in the rally on the Saturday, although not sure what vehicle we'll be taking yet. Thoroughly recommended for a drive out that way for lunch on the Saturday.

Nonetheless, massively looking forward to it!
Depart tomorrow on the o/n ferry.
For the first time arrive there to see the Friday events. Not doing the official rally this time but have invented our own little route for lunch.
The evenings are probably the best. Enthusiastic, loads of interesting cars parked everywhere and great food in the town. All at non ridiculous prices.
See you all there.

A fantastic weekend. Great drive down on the A roads on Thursday, a quiet Friday, saw the rally depart on Saturday.
We didn't take part this year but took a previous poster's advice and had a superbe drive out to Brantome for an excellent lunch by the river.
Racing and pits on Sunday was good and excellent food all weekend at pretty reasonable cost. Here are a few photos to encourage more to go. (but not too many, it is a lovely low key event!)

Great weekend wasn’t it!
Early start at Folkestone..
Pit stop along the way down
Early morning coffee on Saturday
Some rather ancient racing cars in the pits..
Along with some more modern, rapid machinery
En route to Brantome
Bumped into some more Porsche’s along the way
Brantome gets more beautiful each year it seems
Lunch at Cote Rivière
Saturday nightlife….en route to Cafe Chaud
Front row seats at Carnot opposite the pits exit….literally feet away from the action
Fantastic races with battles between Porsche, Lotus and the Alpines.
This event just gets better and better, will definitely be back again!
