Melbourne raceway is the new name for York Raceway that closed a few years ago.
Following a huge fundraising effort and work from Trevor Duckworth and the Straightliners team we managed to lay a new race surface on the drag strip and have been racing 1/8th mile since early Summer last year. The venue is improving all the time thanks to regular work parties and continuing fundraising. Its better now than its ever been but we would like to see more attending.
I hear a lot of stories that many people that may be interested in coming havent even heard of the place.
So please vote and comment and lets try and get the place on the map for all petrol heads alike.

I and many of my friends have been competing and visiting the track since 1977 when it was known as Pennine Raceway.
Although still being developed as 'Melbourne Raceway,' it is already in better shape than any of the previous owners/promoters provided.
Straightliners (Trevor Duckworth) have pulled out all the stops to make this the premier Drag Strip in the North of England, and things can only get better if we continue to support and donate as it progresses.
We need the support of both the competitors and the general public to keep on moving forward.
If you have friends/family who enjoy a good day out whether petrol heads or not, please let them know the track exists and is very children friendly.
If you fancy having a go yourself RWYB's are at all the meetings. Whether you just want to see how good your car/van/scooter/motorbike is on the track, grudge race a mate or just want the thrill of going down a real drag strip, come and have a go.
Although currently only 1/8, with the support and funding it WILL be the 1/4.
The term 'Use it or lose it' is often banded about, so please pass on the word to anyone you know to be able to reach this goal .
There is ample room for weekend camping, so come and give it a go and sample the friendly atmosphere always present at Melbourne Raceway.

At last weekends meeting we had a fantastic local band Moon Candy who entertained for hours on Saturday night. There will soon be a clubhouse and bar built on site too. next year we hope to have much more on offer as well as the excellent drag strip. Watch out for posts on events and join the facebook group 'Melbourne Raceway Community' for all the current news etc.
Its already apparent that we need to do a lot more promotional work.
We get a lot of comments about the fact that Melbourne is easily confused with a place in Australia.
Fact is the village of Melbourne next to the airfield the drag strip is on was named many hundreds of years before the Aus one.
Just need to keep spreading the word and hopefully educate all those potential visitors and future racers.

What is it with Melbournes and motorsport? There's a village called Melbourne in Derbyshire, not far from Donington Park circuit. Good luck with the venture, but sadly it's a bit far away for me to attend regularly.
Melbourne is a 3.5 hour drive for me and i go to every meeting. The pod takes another hour. I really dont mind the journey towing the trailer and see it as part of the weekend.
Its better than sitting at home any day!
I truly believe as further improvements are made to Melbourne, the racing classes grow and the word is spread that more will make the journey. We have already had visitors from as far as Somerset and Devon come to the No-prep weekends and have a few regulars that travel from Scotland and Wales.
