The British Motor Show Farnborough
Discussion
I couldn’t see any other posts on this (apologies if I’ve missed it) but is this any good - I must admit it’s all new to me.
It also popped-up on my social media feed, for those interested but have not come across it.

I am within walking distance and have the week off work at I'd booked it off to go to Le Mans (which I will be watching on TV now) so booked a ticket.
I also went to the show at Battersea a couple of years back so not getting my hopes up for this, especially as the website is somewhat vague about what there might be to see.
At least if it is rubbish I can be home in 10 minutes.

My self printed ticket has my name on it.
I notice I have the option on the TicketMaster site to sell my ticket, as I am only going on the Thursday and Friday I shall see if I can sell the weekend days once I get home on Friday or if the option disappears once I use the ticket on Thursday...
Also. Looking at the Covid rules there is no mention of how they will be treating access to any displayed vehicles, so it will be interesting to see if it is a free for all like a 'normal' motorshow or if you can only get a close look if you are a genuine buyer and they clean the cars between each person.

Now Then.
I spent this morning at the show. As mentioned above I live 5 minutes drive from the car parking area, so my plan was to have a quick recce today and then go back tomorrow with a friend for a proper look.
I got to the entrance around 1030 and it took approx 30 minutes to go round the main inside area.
Luckily there is plenty of outdoor stuff to occupy you time - driving displays, classic car clubs etc.
The electric vehicle hall was more interesting, and I managed to book a test drive of a Jaguar i-Pace.
There was a queue for the Jag, so I had to settle for a go in a Tesla Model3. Which was nice. Had a 5 minute spin around the BAe campus which was enough to experience the regenerative braking.
Back to the main hall. There were plenty of random new cars parked up but all were locked and no-one around to pretend you were interested to get them unlocked.
If you are in the market for an electric crossover then you will be ok, but very little else.
The only brand with anywhere near a full model lineup on show was Ssangyong - you have to admire them trying to sell a pickup for more than a Hilux costs.
Kia had a couple of crossovers, no Ceed or Proceed that I would have been interested to see.
Nothing from Hyundai - would have liked to see the i20 or i30 N models.
The local dealership chain for SEAT, Renault and Dacia had a number of sensible cars but no hot hatches from those brands.
There was a sizeable Ford stand outside with electric and hybrid models - the Mustang crossover was interesting.
There were, however, loads of supercars and ghastly bodykitted SUVs for kids to get photos next to.
I left at 1320 to go home to watch Le Mans coverage on TV and there was already a steady flow of other people leaving.
In conclusion, it was interesting as a car show but certainly not a new car motor show in the traditional style. There was no shortage of punters so hopefully other brands could be encouraged to attend future years.

We were there today too and arrived at 10am and left at 5pm. We didn’t manage to fit the electric hall in but did see everything else. Agree that it’s a shame that cars weren’t unlocked (cos Covid) and several of the activities were sold out (cos Covid) and it definitely felt like a few marques were under represented or completely absent (at least compared to my last Motorshow at the NEC) and not really pushing any new models (maybe cos Covid).
However, it was still a very good day and we enjoyed meeting Mike “‘old out yer hand” Brewer, VBH, Stig, the super car and classic car paddocks and all the outdoor arena shows. Paul Swift’s black cab had the kids laughing uncontrollably.
Bargain tbh and hopefully will be successful enough to be back bigger and better in coming years!
