Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I've always wanted to go to one of these shows.
See the vehicles, and people dressed up in period costume etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for info, or recommend a particular show to try ?
I'm based in the south east.

Thanks

You need to go to Goodwood revival. There's a fair bit of military stuff there, but everyone is in the right gear.

Last year I think I counted about half a dozen people in "normal clothes" (jeans+tshirt) and they looked totally out of place and were probably a little embarrassed.

Plus its a belting day out.

Yep, as been already mentioned, War & Peace at Beltring and Victory Show at Cosby are the two real big events of this type to go to.

I can't say I suffer from embarrassment when encountering fat middle aged blokes dressed up as SS officers etc . There's a whole thesis to be written ....

There is a big show in July at Hunsworth in West Yorkshire, not far from Cleckheaton (near Bradford but don't let that put you off).

We discovered it by accident last year and my youngest enjoyed it so we're planning to go again this year, details can be found here

Several of the preserved steam "Heritage Railways" also do WW2 Themed weekends. There is one at the Great Central this coming weekend.

When I went three years ago there were people happily wearing polo shirts and jeans in the hospitality marquee I was in, no one looked in the slightest embarrassed.

Glad to say I attended the Victory show last Sunday.
Really enjoyed the day, watching the planes taking off right next to you was priceless. The Catalina was the highlight of the air show for me, although the Merlin's in the spitfire and Mustangs did roar a lot ! There's videos up on YouTube already so go see there.

Lots of tracked vehicles, literally dozens of Willy's jeeps, 40's cars, motorbikes etc. Watching them start up and drive around was fun. My 82 year old father was given free entry, lunch and use of the veterans marque as an ex national service man (he served out in Malaya). Sadly not enough WW2 veterans around to make up the numbers these days.

Id go again smile

There's something along these lines at the Heritage Centre in Crewe this weekend, 14/15th September. No use for the OP, but I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone was interested in the north west.

War and Peace at Beltring was always the big one.
I've been going since 2010 and sadly the amount of stuff that goes seems to be decreasing.

Military Odyssey at Detling is definitely worth a look.
Not just WW2 but all of Human history is covered!

For vehicles , nothing will top Tankfest at Bovington
