Anyone going to Angouleme this year?
Discussion
Was thinking about doing the rally on the Saturday, however €400 for two people in a car seems a tad high to our party....also if the weather is poor it could turn into an expensive disappointment...
On the past couple of trips, we've driven out to Brantome, a beautiful village about an hour away, with fantastic roads winding through a forest. Loads of restaurants etc there and can thoroughly recommend it if you fancy a trip out on the Saturday.

Yup. We are going. Ferrari 360, 930 turbo , Evora S and some other stuff. Thursday evening ferry hi St Malo. The Ferrari and Evora will then be doing a road trip through the Dordogne to the Pyrenees and on to Santander god ferry home.
Looking forward to it. Haven’t done Angouleme before. Also want to do Pau at some point.

You'll love it I'm sure.
When we went two yrs ago, we saw what we thought was possibly the best race we'd ever seen on the Sunday afternoon, with a 60's 911 & Mk1 Escort battling out for the lead for over half an hour.
Absolutely full on, sideways round the hairpin, mesmerising action! The crowd were ooh and aaahing with each overtake attempt, cheering the drivers along...absolutely fab stuff!
We didn't bother with Grandstands last time, felt being on the side of the road with the crowds made it much more exciting.
Purchased a Cayman R a few weeks ago which is an epic little machine, so will probably be taking this now.
Eurotunnel early on the Friday for us, hoping to arrive 6pm ish as we're going to try and avoid the Autoroutes on the way.
Pau is also on our list, possibly for next year, although with Mille Miglia, LM Classic, Angouleme one the cards for 2020 a decision will have to be made which one we knock off the wishlist..

I remember the Escort vs 911 battle..it was epic. Hoping for better weather this time. Say hello if you see us. (2 TVR Tuscans and an Aston Vanquish volante)

There's a fab little cafe / bar called Cafe Chaud we sometimes frequent, just north of the centre. Could meet up for a glass of something?GG33

The whole town becomes a classic car fest from Friday through to Monday morning. All the bars and cafes and restaurants are populated by petrolheads on Friday. Many of the streets in the town are set aside for classic parking (modern classics too) usually by marque.
There's a big rally on Saturday with an exquisite lunch stop. Entry by ticket only and it's not cheap. Sat is also qualifying day and there is a concours show in the evening.
Sunday is race day. It's a short tight circuit around the city, but good fun. You be able to get entry tickets at the venue during the weekend. Usually many Brits in attendance, both spectating and racing. I believe it clashes with Goodwood revival this year but the race entry is full, so should still be good.

Route to angouleme I know well as it’s en route to caen for uk trips (did it Tuesday)
Bergerac, Musidan, Riberac, angouleme, tours, Le Mans etc..
It’s a good hoon as far as angouleme, very few cameras or gendarme, good passing areas and September will mean little to no traffic (12-2pm zero traffic) all motorway after that.

For those of you using the "Gatine tunnel" in Anguleme town. There has been a brand new super camera installed there.
Not only measuring speed but also vehicle distance, mobile phone use and safety belt use.
They are looking to reCoupe a very large amount of money spent on the tunnel renovations.
Have a great time everyone it's a great event.
