Karting @ Thruxton
Discussion
Right. I've just got back from Thruxton GT/Tuscans and picked up one of their brochures. Mixed in with Ferrari experiences and such like (yeah, yeah, slow cars ) there was karting on a 1100m circuit(outdoors). It might be fun...
Am I tempting fate by suggesting this as a PH do? Will it become overly competitive and be the sort of thing where the casual observer might put their hands over their eyes? Do we PHers care about the casual observer?
All these questions, and more, will be answered if it ever gets off the ground.
If there's any interest, I'll look into what we can do with a group booking. Their brochure gives the following for an individual turing up:
Briefing 20mins
Practice 10 mins
Heat 1 6 laps
Heat 2 6 laps
Heat 3 6 Laps
Final 15 laps
with all competitiors taking part in all bits. By the looks of things, it adds up to about 2 hours. The karts are 13bhp (claimed 50mph top speed), btw. Price in the brochure is 45 quid. If there's sufficient interest I'll see if they're flexible on format/price -- I guess it would depend on numbers. They seem to support 20 drivers per session, btw. By the looks of things, it seems to be mid-week, too, though that's something I'll be able to check on, again depending on interest.
On the same line, if anyone knows anywhere cheaper/better/hasbeentoThruxtonkartingandsaysitscr@p then speak up.
Well?

Can we race the carts whilst eating pies - just to make it more tricky? he he he!!!
How about a Pie as a trophy...not sure I could cope with stuffing a Melton whilst retaining control.
Still. We could issue a buffet size pork pie and insist that it was finished before the end of the final... So...you'd have to choose your moment as to when to eat it. A bit like that "boost" thing in the Palmer-Audis you get twice in a race....
Errr. Perhaps not.

You mean like a mandatory "pie-stop"?

Anyway, I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see if I can talk to someone. At the very lesat, I'll get them to send me the proper brochure, as they'd all gone on Sunday, curiously enough...
I'll see what the deal is with weekday vs weekend, too.
Cool. Weekend would be best for most of us I expect...a Saturday is better for me as I often need to do IAM stuff of a Sunday.
I could take a half-day off on a Friday though....
Just some suggestions.
I telephoned them today and they're sending me the info. Not really much to add, except that the lead times are quite long -- beginning of November for weekday and end of November for weekend. The prices quotede me were 60/70 for weekay/weekend which looks as if it includes their "Personal Acident" insurance (which I thought was supposed to be optional -- we'll see). I'll double check this when I get the info.
Not really much to add, except that the format can be changed to the "endurance" thing.
I'll let you know when I know....

We have just had 54 of our customers at Wessex Raceway, near Salisbury for a 2 hour endurance. Great evening, started at 7pm for breifing, then 7:30 for race. 9 teams of 6 took part with an additional 12 spectators. Great night & allegedley the biggest indoor track in europe @ 700m long. Lap times were 30 -32 seconds. My mate owns it. & as he's only been open for a couple of months, might be up for a deal. BTW total cost including bar & hogroast (no pie) 2.5K but it's all tax deductable & we got a few of our suppliers to "contribute". Take a look. www.wessex-raceway.co.uk
