Saturday 7th June, setting off from Edinburgh at 9am, meeting in the car park at the Crammond Brig car park as it's on route and large and always empty now that the pub is closed. I have been personally assured by the BBC that the weather will be as displayed in the pictures attached.

Crammond Brig Inn (or what formerly was, I believe it is now a steakhouse...?):
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Cramond+Brig+R...

Updated route: ---
From there we'll drive past Stirling to Aberfoyle, so that we can take the Duke's Pass before carrying on to Callander and Crianlarich. Rest as required! From Crianlarich we drive north-west toward Glencoe. As you reach Glencoe, you have the choice of expediting the route and heading on to Fort William via the A82, or extending it into the 'Scotsburgring' by running up and down Loch Leven, then through to Fort William. Finally we head north-west along the A87 toward Dornie and ultimately, Applecross.

The route there - about 6-7 hours:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/The+Brig,+6+Quee...

As for coming home, we first loop north around the coast to Sheildaig and Loch Torridon then it's cross-country to Inverness across some beautiful roads. Then it's straight back down the A9 to Edinburgh, which is going to be a five-hour route home all in. Not one for the uncommitted, then. I can't imagine it, but if appetites are still high, we could use the A93 instead, but I don't really rate it that highly so possibly not.

The route home:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Applecross,+High...

Names on the sign up sheet below please...

Drive organised for the Edinburgh Sports Cars Owners Club - absolutely all welcome, full variety of cars expected including Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi R8, Corvette, MR2, Golf, Supra, Clio and more

I'd love to, I've done it twice in a new at the time MX-5 Mk2, I had to do it twice and a round trip of several hundred miles as I left my wallet with all our holiday money under a table at the pub - it was all still there so I stood a round of drinks for those at the bar

I'd love to do it in the Midget but it's a bit too far and too shorter notice so it'll be the Welsh mountains again this year for the Midget

That is unfortunate. None of that, I hope...!

Shame you can't come - would love to see a Midget in 'real life', and certainly never driven with one yet. All the best with Wales - I just went for the first time in my life, to climb Snowdon - but loved the roads down there (especially through Snowdonia)

As a day trip, it's a bit too far for me. eek

If Glen attends tell him that TLF is asking whether he has got rid of the Teins yet! spin

I reckon 470 miles in 10.5 hours (average speed c47mph!) is very ambitious.

The Kessock Bridge road works were a right PITA when we were up there last month.
In the middle of summer they are going to be even worse.

That said, I can't believe you're omitting two of the best driving roads.

- Dukes Pass - loop off the A84 via Aberfoyle (A873/A81/A821)
- The B863 'Scotsburgring' round Loch Leven (after Glencoe)

Not a fan of the A9 either tbh. Too many HGVs and people doing dodgy overtakes.
Take the B roads east from Inverness via Culloden then A939/A93/B950/A924 to Pitlochry.

I don't suppose TLF = TonyLeFrog? If so I remember you from MR2OC! Although we never met. Glen speaks highly of you.

As for your two suggestions - definitely possibilities. Everything is weather dependent and dependent on the tenacity and ambitions of my fellow drivers. I'll add both of those in if it's nice. The road round Loch Leven is an absolute devil though - have you ever had the pleasure/challenge of a drive out to the peninsular Kilchoan? Only two months or so ago I did it - chasing the moon light. Had to skip that route round the loch in favour of the Corran ferry, which we boarded at 9.15! A lonely, dark road from there on.

I really like the Duke's Pass suggestion, and I've never driven it yet. Cheers!

mine's a bit different as I'm one of the few that use it as a daily so it's reliable and I know how to drive it (within the tight limits of my ability)

I'd be at a total loss of getting to speed after stops and give-ways and on straight roads but come the twisty bits the Midget tends to surprise those in modern cars, been on a couple of mixed PH runs with fast machinery behind me and twice when I've asked why they didn't overtake they've said they were enjoying watching the Midget get round the bends

if I was going you could have even got a little drive to see how things were 40 years ago

if you go again and remember contact me and I'll suggest some great mountain roads, this will be our sixth consecutive year of doing those roads

good luck with your run, we've toured Scotland in a few different cars but not for a good few years now, run-in my first Westfield by a nip up and overnight stop in Scotland for its first 1,000 mile service

Ditto.

Had a great time chasing him around the Highlands over the Easter weekend.

No, I have yet to venture out to Kilchoan/Ardnamurchan lighthouse. Unfortunately I live in the far south east of England, so any trip to the Highlands for me has to be for at least 4 days up there to make it worth the long haul.

Do it. Trust me, you'll be hooked. thumbup

100% concentration is vital otherwise it's all too easy to be caught out on some of the bends. spin

I love the first video with the 911. Fantastic. Can't wait! I hope we get good weather for it.

Considering revising start time to 9am instead of 10am.

Kilchoan is worth a visit, it's a lovely corner of Scotland. Some fantastic roads - but pretty serious, full of livestock, and will bottom out a lot of cars. The Highland Drive must be one hell of a jaunt for you coming from the SE! Allegedly it's 5 days next year, Glen tells me? What a trip.

This was taken in June 2011 when we came from Mull. Single track roads which are fun except for the continental drivers who don't understand these things. There is a nice tea room, fantastic views and it is so peaceful and quiet.
(the top was up to stop the seats being cooked in the hot sun before you lot start...rotate)

and my crap photography makes it look like Pisa.

If/when I get a chance for a solo trip I'll put it on the list. The other 'must do' is to take the ferry to Inverie in Knoydart.
This place is on my bucket list. Will have to find somewhere in Mallaig to park the car though. smile

You could say that! laugh I've done 5 of the last 6 Drives (had to miss 2011 due to external factors: properly gutted). I actually do more miles getting there and back than on the Drive itself (my total this year was exactly 2000). I usually go up in convoy with some of the other guys from south of the border. Coming back though I do my own thing and so am able to take in many other great roads (for example Northumberland/Durham/North Yorks).

Not allegedly: it's a fact. It will be the 10th anniversary of this event so an extra day has been added to mark the occasion.

Very tempted, what's the latest route and how long do you think it will take to drive?

Hi there mate. Where would you be coming from? We have a large contingent coming from Edinburgh and the Glaswegians will be joining us at Aberfoyle.

We are meeting at the Crammond Brig Inn (or what formerly was, I believe it is now a steakhouse...?) here at 9am:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Cramond+Brig+R...

From there we'll drive past Stirling to Aberfoyle, so that we can take the Duke's Pass (see above!) before carrying on to Callander and Crianlarich. Rest as required! From Crianlarich we drive north-west toward Glencoe. As you reach Glencoe, you have the choice of expediting the route and heading on to Fort William via the A82, or extending it into the 'Scotsburgring' by running up and down Loch Leven, then through to Fort William. You probably want to post this up in the Scotland section.

It's one hell of a long route and a bit ambitious, having done many of the PH ecosse runs and very familiar with this route I'd suggest getting out of edinburgh by no later than 8am. Other suggestions for the run back south avoiding A9 are spot on.

Hi synxero,
Cool, thanks for the info.
I'd be travelling up from the Midlands on Friday and looking to stay locally overnight somewhere. Probably will have a look at the forecast next weekend as it's a long way to go. Are you going whatever the weather?

Oh I should think we are indeed. I am absolutely desperate to make it to Applecross come rain or shine. A lot of the other guys are similarly gripped by the fever. I think it's a safe bet.

I can send you a mobile number if you like - and you can keep in touch that way. Not much chance of checking PH on the day except for a final glance in the morning from the car park before set-off.
