Silverstone F1 camping 2013

Hi all,
For my 30th birthday present my GF's folks have paid for us to have 3 days at the F1, camping in the "lively campsite"! I can't wait, but having never even been to an F1 race before I'm a little unsure as to how it all works?! Has anyone got any pointers or experience of camping at Silverstone? When do we want to get there to get a good spot? Do people take large tents, can you park next to the tent etc etc? As above, any hints or tips would be gratefully received.
