European convoy next year...

I've read a few threads on here about some of the great roads throughout europe and it's got me thinking. I've always fancied driving through some amazing mountainous scenery, just like the backdrops in 007 and Evo. The trouble is I've never driven in europe and don't know any decent areas to pass through or stay. Top of my checklist would be stunning mountains, like the Alps, but would be good to end up somewhere like Monte Carlo etc. Ideally I'd love to be part of a convey of others that know what they're doing and where we're going! This sort of thing will take time to organise so I'm mentioning it now. I'll post nearer the time too, but I'll be looking for as many as possible to join me and the girlfriend next year in a trek. Think you'll be up for it around next May? Ages away now, I know, but you know what it's like with planning holidays and time off etc. It would be great if we could have a massive PH convey all the way, stopping off for stella, pies and some sleep! I'm sure it would be a bloody good laugh. Who would be up for it then?...

The whole event thing is something I'm trying to get a handle on. I've been doing a little investigation into companies that I could work with to organise trips and track days etc, but haven't come to any conclusions as yet.

Ultimately it makes sense to plan these things in house but to do it will require greater resources than I have at present.

I have had offers of help to organise individual events but I want to ensure consistency, value, safety, fun, liablity issues and worthy of PH brand etc for all events.

So, next year, maybe. Depends how the expansion plans go.

Have been throughthe alps down into Italy with my Dad driving. Him beaming like a cheshire cat and getting out of the car everyday chuffed to bits. Mum gets out of the car half stressed out by the experience and I am left with an engrained memory of those roads.

Was looking at doing this year but have run out of time so would love a crack at it next year.

May have a newer toy to play in then aswell....

Cheers

Interesting. Already people (e.g. Me, Whatever, Simont) are using PH to organise small events of a local nature (i.e. Pie and Drive and shortly Pie and Drive II). It would be *excellent* to do something professionally done one-time. PH easily has the numbers. Last year the TVRCC did a Manx Mania tour which was utterly excellent. I know the PCGB have done the same and are going to Ireland this year. Each of these tours was with a company that specialised in arranging "Car Club" tours. They included a Track Day, a Closed Road run and lots of Grand Touring.

If you like I'll get you their name as I still have the details somewhere. BTW: Given enough warning Mrs Don and I would be well up for it.

A grand tour of the best roads in Europe - top idea!!!

Given the dates/price etc etc are all OK then I would be very interested

Perhaps we could end up a La Sarthe in mid June

Ted - you might be able to drum up some media interest about the site with bigger events like this. Would be a cool annual fixture. "Gumball rally" or some such?...

I would be very interested in coming along as well, and if you could time it in with LM or Monaco (historic GP perhaps - little less crowded?) then so much the better.

Not sure of association with Gumball rally, but definitely getting the press interested would be good news for PH and your sponsors...

Sounds good to me, I'm trying to plan a similar trip for me and a mate but would happily tag on someone elses experience/trip or welcome others.

My plan is to drop through Europe visiting historic race circuits (Spa, Reims, etc similar to the series Motorsport magazine did) over the Stevilo pass and into Italy for factory tours at Ferrari, Lambo, (if possible) then home via Monaco. Will be a lot of driving but aiming for a 7-10 day trip

All these ideas sound ideal. All I meant before is we need an event name, not that it should be anything to do with the gumball etc. The trip to Monaco, for example, takes 3 days I've heard. Ideally there would be at least a day spent lazing around the final destination too. Something this distance will clearly mean a week off work.

not sure i would be best choice for a general events coordinator (a lack of sportscar is the major issue!)but if you ever need a sporting events co-ordinator i would be happy to get involved.

Yes, excellent idea; I guess non-British PH wouldn't disapprove
