Is anyone else from this site going to be doing this? I've just joined the Sporting Bears Motor Club which organises motor events in support of childrens' charities. www.sportingbears.org.uk
They told me that one of the biggest draws is their 'dream rides' where members of the public make a donation in return for a passenger ride in your car (10 mile route). I'm taking the 360 up on Sunday 26th and was wondering whether anyone else is doing it too. They tell me that the objective is *not* to scare the crap out of the punters..

My Tamora'll be on the TVRCC Stand so I won't be able to. I remember last year that the Dream Rides was very busy with about 30 cars to chose from. Seemed like they were making a lot of money for charity? Go for it........
Cheers....... Andrew

i went in a ferarri 275 gtb ( as in passenger it was not mine unfortunately ) last year - was excellent fun for a good cause - they had some 500 hp cobras there that looked ace but were booked up when i wanted to go. Was the first time i sat in the elise s2 despite having ordered one 6 months earlier! much better than the normal motor show.

Did the "pay to ride" thing a couple of years ago at this show, in a Griff 500. The nice man from Sporting bears said "This is a car provided by TVR so we can't go to too mental in it, and we have to declare the routes we intend to use to the police, so cannot break the speed limit, but we can "demonstrate" the acceleration of the vehicles....." at which point one of the 427cu Cobra's went past us like we had the handbrake on, and hung the tail out all the way round a roundabout to prove a point !!

I had a blast even as a passenger, and I take my hat off to any owners/drivers who volunteer their vehicle/services for the event.

Flasher,
So your car is in the sporting car rides then? - how much are charging? Any discount for advanced booking or I could wait around Leamington Spa to see Mr Thomas about in his one again 'pleez mista, giv us a go'.
Tim.

Nick Whales 'lent' Vic and a Noble last year to Sporting Bears dream rides - £50 and people were paying it - and coming back white.

I thought I'd seen somewhere that there would be a Lambhorgini Diablo in the dream rides but can't find it now - anyone know if there will? Also, how is the donation decided?

Any clues appreciated, hope to see a Pistonhead or two there on Sunday (probably).

Looking forward to meeting Flasher, S6TFT and any other PHer who's coming along on the Sunday. Should be a larf. Got some PH stickers for the car to make identification easier, though there isn't much window area to play with; could do with see through and/or smaller stickers. The current ones are clearly for the visually challenged.

This will be my first time doing dream rides and all I know is that I have to bring along a photo of the car and that someone allocates rides to it. Don't know how this is decided, and whether people have a choiceof which car they go in. Hope to God there's a tunnel or two and that it doesn't rain. As a driver you have to commit to doing 4 rides, each of ca. 10 miles; I will do more than this if I'm asked, though I do want to see the show as well.

The only other information I have comes from last Friday's Cambridge Evening News (!), which said that there will be 'more than 50 high performance sports cars offering passenger rides'.

Cheers

Kevin

Thanks Viper. I've been told to arrive early tommorrow so that should put me in pole to bag some dream rides myself. Up to three so far- TVR, Diablo and a Viper. Looks like being an expensive weekend

Good day today at the NEC, raising lots of money for charidee, by taking 'donations' for a ride in various cars.

Flasher was busy all day at £20 a go, his 'Dream Ride' was a bit mispriced making it a major bargain. I got 5 takers at £45!

Flasher was well gutted, his passengers were comprised entirely of spotty yoofs or bearded, rotund gentlemen...whilst I ended up with the 21yr old, Miss Greece 2000. Hmmmm, Quote [verbatum] ' I just love Ferrari's they are so seeexy, going fast with a good driver makes me very exciteable'.......couldnt really think of a reply to that one.

Police were turning a blind eye to the roads in use, until a GT40 got clocked at 105 in a 30. I had a very enjoyable practice for Duxford by dualling a new GT2 Porsche and 700bhp Cobra up a 1 mile dual carriageway. Suprised to say Fezzer was glued to the 467BHP GT2 but left slightly trailing above 120mph by the supercharged Cobra.

IF none of you are up to much then well worth a visit tomorrow, a very nice Lambo Miura is up for £50 a ride not to mention a couple of very scary Megabusa Westfields, Vipers for £50 or several GT40's, even a XJ220 or a Lola if funds are plentiful.

seems they had a good first day raising £12,700 with more expected tomorrow, the vipers did 12 runs each around the course and a tank of fuel. Watch out if you're coming in your own car tomorrow around the NEC we've been pre-warned by the police they will be out with there radar gear, trying to slow down todays antics and not giving warnings this time. The vipers were fully booked for the day by lunchtime

My Tamora was fully booked by 11am nearly didn't get a lunch break because some woman who did the pricing put my car at £20!!!

Very strange decision when a Renault Clio was £30 No wonder I took 14 people out. I even did a couple of guys at the end who begged for a go and stumped up the cash....

£12700!!! wow, lets do rides at Chatsworth !!!
