Looking forward to Angouleme this year, we’re taking an additional day each side of the weekend to get there and back, so planning to avoid the Autoroutes / Tolls as much as possible.

MrsV just got some new wheels and I’m mighty tempted to take her car this year, should be lovely to cruise through the French countryside in.

It’ll use about half the fuel than the Cayman GTS will….but the Cayman will be more fun round the roads when we’re there scratchchin

So, who else is making the trip this year and what car are you taking?

Mrs Biggles has a near identical c class convertible, same colour! Took it to France last year and although being a 300d its got plenty of poke it's definitely a cruiser. Lovely on a hot day with the roof down and capable enough but you can certainly feel the weight trying to hustle it along some twisty roads. It'll eat up the miles marvellously but falls short on driver enjoyment. We'll be at Angouleme in something more event appropriate! From previous French adventures, the A110 is remarkably good at being a quiet, comfortable and economic 'mini GT' on the long runs and hugely fun, nimble and playful companion when you get anywhere interesting.

Nice smokin

I do love an Alpine, right up my street as a car being lightweight.

How do you get on with luggage space?

I did consider taking our little lightweight, however I think that might be a stretch too far! hehe

It's not so bad. You do have to be disciplined with packing and appropriately shaped squashy bags make the best use of the front and rear boots. Angouleme will be only a week (I'm out and back from Scotland). We're off for three weeks to Annecy and Avignon area during July. Only issue is bulky and solid items but even then there's a bit of room behind the seats and in the cabin to stuff things.

I remember the year we went down, it absolutely bucketed it down from Le Mans to Angouleme. A couple in our group were in their elise, and soon found out they are definetely not wartertight.
They stopped at a hardware store and purchased 2 deep meat roast tins to put in the footwells to keep their feet dry.
When we reached the hotel, their luggage was so wet they sat in the car park wringing it out.

X3 M40D for us… swerving a lot but not all of the autoroutes. After the M2C last year, I think this will be the perfect tool for the roads across the Loire.

Really looking forward to it; such a great event!

We opted for the Spa Classic one year instead of Angouleme…

Have to say the event was brilliant, getting so close to the cars in the pits was immense!

Also did track laps on the Saturday at Lunchtime in the 911, that was an experience to remember!
