Hi everyone,

I know this isn't quite in the vein of this forum, but given the lack of a dedicated McLaren section, I thought I'd post here.

I've got the press launch pack from the McLaren launch at the Sporting Club in Monaco in 1992. It's got a technical document of around 25 pages, the original slides and also the original photos it came with. I was given it by a very good family friend who somehow ended up with two. I've had a look on the web and not found much information on it, (looked in Bonhams, eBay etc) apart from some very anecdotal stuff about old eBay listings.

There's a photo below, (the one of the contents won't upload despite being small in size) and I wondered if anyone here had ever heard of them being sold, what they went for etc. Most importantly, is this something to keep or should I flog it if the value isn't going to go any higher.

Thanks for any help

AKA8

Edit: Contents photo got there somehow...

I can't honestly say whether it's going to increase/decrease in value in the near future. What sort of price are you looking for? If you ebay it, please PM me.

Thanks.

Pretty sure that flemke will have one already to go with the real thing, but it might be worth PMing him to see.

Very sought after by collectors, even the Mc F1 book goes for a premium on Ebay

Thanks for all the replies, I haven't come across anyone else who has it before, so this is a good first!

I suspected that it would be a good collector's item, probably not as rare as people think perhaps.

I'm still making up my mind as to what to do with it, but will PM if I start thinking about selling it.

I also have a MAC brochure not sure which one it is (black cover full frontal shot of the car) or where it is, but I had an interview there many moons ago and as well as the brochure they gave me a guided tour of the plant. From memory it was the George Harrison car in final assembly.bounce

It may go for £100, it may go for £10. Depends on who is looking for it at the time you list it and whether they want it as bad a the next bidder

I've bought the LARK press kit, one of the 1996 GTR's, from America for about £30, and other press kits, both GTR and road cars, for between £10 and £40, but seen one go for over £100 just before Christmas on ebay.com

Good luck if you opt to sell it!

I'm pretty sure that some of the original F1 packs go for megga bucks to collectors.
As already been said, Flemke is the man to ask.

I'd be interested if it was sensible money, but based on the post above made after I posted, I'm getting the idea it'll be more than I'd be willing to pay!

I've seen that chap Peloton25 around here recently; he's in the McLaren threads of Automotiveforums.com a lot and something of an F1 expert. I seem to recall a few threads about these packs coming up for sale. I'll have a dig around and see what I can find.

  • Edit*
This is from 2005 but a guy here claims to have sold his F1 brochure for £250 (post number 21) http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/books-magazin...

Also, there's talk here of an F1 GT brochure - presumably much rarer - being sold on eBay back in 2004 for a little over $1000 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t135103....

AKA8 - Would be interested in getting a PM if you do decide to part with it. Better photo of the outer press folder would be appreciated. McLaren issued sets of the transparencies and the A4 pages to enquirers. I've got the hardback Monaco launch brochure, the softback version and the GT (longtail road car) brochure direct from Gordon Murray at the end of production. The GT brochure is far rarer than the launch brochures. On top of all this was a special 'customer build book' which was supplied with it's own briefcase - don't have one of those but suspect if one did come up for sale it would be megabucks. Occasionally the Monaco, softback and commercially available 'Driving Ambition' book pop up on ebay.
