Is Chassis taking the P**s

I agree with Ted - he seems genuine, but a little naive.
I can't believe what he says re his age or experience, though. My brother was asking daft shit like this aged 18 before he did an engineering degree. He told me how he was going to make his own 'kevlar chassis' using the University of Sheffield's microwave oven or something.
I had to put him straight. Building a chassis (that works), let alone a kevlar one, is beyond most people and most companies.
Now, he is 25 and the happy owner of a Caterham Seven. That he didn't build himself!!!!!
He can't even change the wings on it, let alone making a chassis for it. I'm sure he'd laugh at his original ideas now, but there is nothing wrong with being enthusiastic or ambitious, so I'm glad pistonheaders have been humouring chassis (and being quite helpful), and not being too rude...

Leeds Uni have been running monocoque style chassis for a while now, and they are just a bunch of students who do it in their spare time (which they admittedly have a lot of, being students). Most team members are only involved properly for a year or two, so they don't have ages to get up to speed.

I think he's genuine in that he is not trying to wind anyone up - but the continual questions and statements re not wanting to go back to studying or learn seem at odds with the initial questions.
I read through his posts and must admit that I didn't fully understand what he was asking for / trying to achieve. If you want to build a car then the 'locost' route is the way to go and if he is reluctant to invest in Ron's book then how will he fund a DIY Ferrari?
Also multi posts will not endear you to people who think you may be a wind up anyhow.
Chassis, if you read this please post stating what your aim is so that you can get the best advise.
Cheers,
JSG.

Hi MEMS - when I meant making a chassis was beyond most people, I was including people who drive Vectras and eat lentil soup in the mix - not your average engineering student. I must admit it isn't that impossible.
A mate of mine built a chassis on the floor of his garage with my best mate, to make a Ron Champion Sevenesque thing, and he reckoned it measured up better than his BMW... Even I'd have a go at putting an Ultima together if I had the space.
I was really trying to say 'make a decent chassis' to suit a sports car, ie one that goes sideways in the tail out not crab sense!!!
