It looks like im going travelling for 3 months and id like to know if i leave my car in a secure place covered for this period is it likely to damage the car if its not run? Apart from tyre's whats the difference in leaving it for a week/month or longer if its secure?

This will cost me 170 p/m, if anyone knows of a professional storage firm not that far from this price id be glad to know.

I do remember someone mentioning a place in Putney?

thanks

You could always come and park it in my undercover car port for 3 months. I'd be happy to take it out and run it for an hour or two every week wink

Free of charge and all... hehe

I've been using a secure storage place between Cambridge and Stevenage for the last few months. They do classic car restoration so have been pretty good at fettling it while it's been with them too. I would recommend them. Costs ca. £80 a month for basic storage. PM me if the location works- they don't advertise much, for obvious reasons. Thee months is no problem; most cars that are in storage have been there for years!

Location isnt great for me but thanks. Im happy to leave it in my normal car park but without the battery charger i can expect the battery to be dead flat cant i?

Good God yes! It'll need to be on a trickle charger no question- it's the only vital bit if you're not driving it. I always leave my cars on charge when I'm not using them, since about 50% of panic calls into dealers trace back to flat batteries IIRC

Personally, I wouldn't leave my car in a car park for that long.

Tigastor information is here - www.tigastor.co.uk

I store a couple of cars with Paragon in East Sussex - their facility is about 20 mins drive from their sales/services premises in Five Ashes. Details are on their website - www.paragon.gb.com/storage/default.asp

I always find them helpful and friendly - can`t remember the cost at the moment - give Mick the service manager a ring if you need further information.

Edited to add thats my red 911 Turbo and gold 911 SC you can see in their storage facility! smile

I used http://www.storacar.co.uk/ for the past 6 months and they couldn't do enough to help. They can pick you up, drop you off. Transport the car wherever is needed. They even taxed the car for me. Also they are really great when working outside of usual hours and the guy who helped me out there is a pure car enthusiast! Really nice guy who would always take the time out to chat about what cars were there. You wouldn't believe the special cars that are stored there lick

I have an R8 v10 stored on trickle at home and wind drive until summer. Should I leave the car or run it up from time to time, what is correct protocol here?

This came up as a discussion on a recent R8 forum.

Word from REP was unless you're going to drive it, starting it up (no matter how long you leave it) won't get the car hot enough to make a difference. Best is to drive it every 3-4 weeks but if not, leave it with a full tank of petrol on a trickle charge.

Also if you wash it before storage, drive it rough the block as the brake pads can stick to the discs.

The above goes for anything in storage, not just an R8.
