Why does the Ferrari 488 Spider retain its Value so well

Bit confused here, it is not a fabulous car, there have been many successors but it seems 50k too expensive on a relative value basis to its Ferrari and competitors in the secondhand market?

Ehh…. Sorry it is a fabulous car. Owned half a dozen different Ferrari’s and my 488 Spider was the one I wish I’d kept and would have another in a heartbeat. Better build, brakes and steering over a 488 and sounds better than the F8. The pick of the bunch for me.

does it really? It seems like they are substantially cheaper than the F8 and not that much higher than the 458 - not sure which cars you are comparing them to.

With supercars the market seems very slow to adjust because it’s illiquid and rich people can generally afford to wait. I’ve been half watching the McLaren market for 3 months and turnover seems very slow but the prices barely move.

I’m not sure which one is mispriced but the small gap between the 458 and 488 always surprises me.

458 is favoured by some as last n/a V8 with better sound than 488.

yes lets forget the 458 (with its lovely engine but frugly as hell front design) I am just trying to process why a 6 year old 488 is today in continental Europe worth more than a low mileage 296

In all the articles and comments I’ve ever read about the 458, I have never seen anyone call the front design ugly (I’m not sure what ‘frugly’ means but hey ho). In fact, very much the opposite.

Not sure what country/ies you are basing your figures on but here in the UK 296GTS's are going for between £275000 - £290,000, while 488 Spiders are anything from £150,000 - £200,000.

The original question makes no sense but despite that, and being bored, I had a quick beak on Ferrari Frogland and I found this:





No surprise there that the 296 is more expensive. The surprising thing is the 488 is £207k and the closest I could find in the UK in terms of mileage is this one at £163k so a £44k difference.



I know it's no surprise that cars in Europe are generally more expensive than the UK (my Range Rover is worth twice as much in Germany) but there you go.

You're making no sense

Just because you don't see the value in a 488 doesn't mean others feel the same, hence the similarity in pricing

It's the same with other manufacturers, newer doesn't always mean 'better', the market decides it's value

I presume you dont own a 488
I have had a 360 spider which was the best sports car I have ever owned (and I have had quite a few)
Replaced by a 458 spider which was then the best sports car I have ever owned
replaced by a 488 spider which is absolutely the best sports car I have ever owned
I replaced the 458 with a 488 because I liked the more edgy modern look it is absolutely wonderful and better than a 458 (until then the best sports car I had ever owned)! in every way.
