Is it just me or is using SOR basically opening yourself up to a "how deep are your pockets" sort of situation especially on older modern classic stuff?

I get some people do use it, but the last couple of weeks I have spoken to 5 or 6 places and all of them have given me a very iffy vibe in that they want to get the car into their workshop then suddenly its going to need thousands spending on it.

The only one thats been fairly decent has been the supplying dealer.

I had one place tell me that they wanted the car, but they would then want to probably do extensive mechanical and cosmetic work to bring it "up to their standard".

The numbers they were talking about retuning were around 40% under market value.... seems like madness to me or am I missing something?

I get they need to make money thats business but never quite realised it would be quite that sort of money.

When you leave your car (Or motorbike) with ANY dealer you are running a very big risk, even if they have been in business fifty years.

I know from experience.

I think you are talking to the wrong people as this would be the sort of thing folk here would whinge about if it was as frequent as your comments suggest and it simply does not ring any bells of regular previous threads

I have no idea if its frequent or not - thats why I posted the question!!!

Maybe its standard, maybe I have the wrong end of the stick, times have changed? I don't know.

There are many many cases of Sale or Return going wrong, the 'your car needs £xx,xxx spending to be fit to sell' is one of many ways it can go badly.

Equally there are many satisfactory sales and happy sellers.

IMO as a seller you need to find someone you can really trust, and also keep a close eye on the situation - a showroom nearby you can easily visit in person is probably helpful.
