So, these seem to be insanely cheap (£35k) and those who have owned them seem to like them. Any views?

I've recently sold a manual V10 after over 7 years of ownership and loved it. They can quickly rack up repair costs so a ppi is essential though.

Thanks for replying.

Can you elaborate on costs please.

Consumables such as discs are around £1200 a pair, servicing at a good indy is around £1-1.5k and a set of tyres £1k. Mag ride dampers are circa £1200 each and oil pump drive seals are known to fail and are a £1k repair.

I would expect a £35k v10 to be a bit of a nail and need some £k spending. As above parts can be expensive.

Ricky at re performance recently did a vid on cheap r8s or made a comment about them, said don’t go for the cheap ones as they will need a lot of work and by the time you’ve spent the money sorting it out you could have bought a decent one,

It depends on what you are going to use it for, but for the mixed use that I did I far preferred the later gearbox.

I went from a V8 with the single-clutch to a first Generation Plus with the dual clutch and it was much nicer to live with in terms of drive train.

On the other hand I hated the unadjustable suspension on the newer car so much that it was the reason I sold it.

Like for like, I think there’s about a £10k discount on the R tronic and I would think harder to sell. There are folks who like the single clutch boxes (with some practice) but from brief test drives of various single clutch autos it hasn’t been for me.

I’ve now got a r tronic, after previously having a manual v10, and like the gearbox. Best to think of it as a manual without a clutch and drive it that way. If you’re predominantly going to be driving the car outside of cities it’s great. I’ve never liked dual clutch type boxes.

I wouldn’t be scared of a high mileage r8 but I’d want a comprehensive service history with it. I had 7 years with my manual v10, 90000kms, and injectors and front dampers were the only non routine service items I had to deal with.

I've an R8 V10 R-Tronic Spyder , and I've just cancelled a viewing at £45k (31k miles, FSH). Why? Because I've decided I don't want to sell her - she's been THAT good. a £35k car must be a high miler? I priced mine about "right" compared to the rest of the market.

I'm into year 4 of ownership and so far she's been hassle free. Whilst under the initial 18 month dealer warranty I had a wiring fault sorted (nose fan 1 always on), and one door locking servo / mech rfeplaced (common fault and common Audi part). Other than that:

- Annual indi services £350 to £450 depending on AC service. I do only around 2000 miles a year.
- Front tyres £240 each replaced in year 1. About to replace the rears ar £300 each. They last well.
- BIG mistake went to Audi to look at a small oil leak - £2400 later and still had the leak. They told me they wanted another £10k - engine out... I laughed. Will never set foot in there again.
- Indy fixed said oil leak £512 inc. 4 hours plus sundries.
- Replaced front discs and pads last autumn - aftermakrket discs, Brembo pads (I think) About £800 all in. 30 min job. Super easy. OEM discs are £1200.... each...
- Oh, stone chip correction £300 - drove past a gritter at high speed....

That's it, in nearly 4 years.

Mentally fast (mine's mapped to around 560), super comfortable, beautiful, the R-Tronic is absolutely wonderful if you drive it like a manual. Clutch wear shows as only 30% in VCDS....31k miles. No idea if it's been replaced before but no paperwork to show for that so unlikely done.

So yes, they are bloody great.

I've been looking to upgrade to a 650s spider, for the giggles. But realised realistically I'd be letting a reliable, sorted, amazing car go, to get a bit faster, more radical car with much higher sevicing costs, an out of the way servicing garage, and own a car that might take over a year to sell onwards. I the started eyeballing Gallardo LPs, £15-20k more gets me a nice spider with 30kish miles but talked myself out of it for similar reasons, plus, Id' only really be doing it to experience owning a "Lambo" - and that would be about bragging rights, which is just daft. (I AM looking at properties abroad right now so will need access to cash fairly fast, which adds to the equation, particularly the Mclaren part of it all)

R8 V10 is a mega bargain to my eyes.

This is her - but, she's not for sale

Ouch! £1-1.5k for a service? I'm paying around £350-£500 ish.

Mags were deleted on mine by the previous owner. I have coilovers which are superb.

I was probably being a bit generous there as it always seemed to want a few extras doing on top of the sevice.

Sounds about right. I was using Ricky and although there's cheaper out there, I very much doubt there is any better.

Minor is oil and filters. Brake fluid every 2 years I think, then major is a minor plus plugs and a more thorough inspection. My guy hasn't changed my plugs as I do such little mileage and they are daft expensive to change for the sake of it. I've had the AC serviced once too.

I use her as my daily as soon as the road salt has cleared, then park up in October , garaged until the next spring.

I had Audi do a thorough inspection last year and all is grand. A real steal in terms of ongoing costs for me. Cant believe I have a buyer lined up and I don't want to sell. World first for me.!

IIRC, it's pollen filter every 2 years as well and air filters every 4 years.

Not a good idea leaving the plugs in over the recommended period as they are known to sometimes sieze in the head.

Cheers - will have them removed and checked!
