Hi all,

Hope I’m posting this in the right section.

Right now I’m in the market for a used 540c/570s or similar. I’ve seen prices of all cars in this segment, among others, have been taking a knock recently. My question is, do dealers in this market like cash buyers? Seems silly to ask but my reason for asking is a friend of mine just purchased a used Porsche 992 and the dealer said they really wanted his part ex (a C63s) over him giving them cash? He could have got more privately but the difference was negligible for him.

I always assumed cash buyers had more leverage when purchasing so my friend’s situation surprised me. I’ve seen a few cars that have been sitting idly by for a while and thinking of making some cash offers. I do coincidentally have a 2019 E63 to trade but I’m getting the impression from offers I’ve had from other dealers regarding part exs I’ll get low balled.

I think you may have answered your own question in some respect. Dealers will prefer a P/X if it is something they can retail themselves and thereby make a profit. If on the other hand your P/X is for whatever reason not desireable to the dealer, then you would be better off not to include it as part of the negotiations.

As a general rule it’s better not to have a part exchange.

If you're a cash buyer now I think you'll smash a deal tbh

Cash is still king for me as you will 'own' the car. Dealers want you on credit as there's another kick-back for them and the finance company will own the car until last penny paid.
